I just took my Mom out of Brookdale after being their for two years. After activities director and the ED left everything went downhill. The turnover rate is terrible. In the past year I have gone to visit my Mom and she has been wet. She has been sleeping in her bed soaking wet. Showers are not given like the should. The food is not the greatest. It is very processed full of sodium. Some of the med techs needed to be trained correctly. Many of the staff members sit around not engaging the residents. When my Mom first moved into Brookdale it was good. It was a hard decision for me but it had to be done. No one will take care of your loved one like you. However, I feel that paying the rent tht we paid, our loved one should have been taken care of better. I have made several complainment to cooperate and it didn't seem to matter. Residents needed better care. ***I did call the number numerous time and nothing was done.

My grandmother had been in this community since October of last year. We recently moved her from this community to another because the care she was receiving was extremely poor. While I was visiting one evening my grandmother missed dinner service. When I went to the desk I let the nurse Carmen and the office manager know my grandmother didn’t receive any dinner. Neither of them acted like it was a big deal. They yelled out to another staff member that my grandmother didn’t get dinner. This was very concerning because my grandma had lost 20 pounds and three dress sizes since being in Brookdale. I went to the ED (Robert) the next day to address this issue. He assured me that this would not happen again. Shortly after that he quit. On multiple occasions we found my grandmother in wet and soiled clothes. We found discrepancies in medications that were being given and concerns when my grandmother continued having diarrhea for 3 weeks straight. The staff continued giving stool softer and laxative even after my family asked that the diarrhea be addressed. Not one bill from Brookdale was ever correct. We contacted several people at HR and unfortunately we got no where with them either. I would urge anyone thinking of placing a loved one here to reconsider. I was shocked to see how many residents from Brookdale are at the community my grandmother is in now.

my mother-in law was moved to brookdale on 9-28-17 she died 3 weeks later, she fell and cut her left leg almost to the bone, then she fell about 2 weeks later and had a hematoma on the left side of her head and face she died about a week later. i was told that she could not have bed rails because of the state regulations, (THAT NEEDS TO BE CHANGED). when i signed the paper work i was told the rent would be $4,000.00 a month and $1,000.00 to move in. the first bill i received was after she passed away and they had raised her rent $393.45 for basic service. i was told that the $4,000.00 was all inclusive. the food looked like a well balanced meal, looked very good and their was an aid at the table to assist anyone that needed it. the staff was very helpful and nice, it was a friendly and well maintained place. My mother was under hospice care and when it was time they had no beds, therefore she passed away at brookdale. My concern was that the staff did not seem to be informed about the progress of the patients, several aids came in and said (what happened she was not like this before). they should have a briefing on their patients every day especially the ones that have major changes. the biggest concern was getting her the morphine she needed at the end, she suffered for the last day i had to call hospice to come and make sure she got the morphine. one nurse Tanya was very well versed on end of like care. she willing gave her meds as often as she needed however she was not on duty when things got rough. some management felt she did not need the morphine because she did not look like she was in pain. they need to be educated on the use of morphine, it is not only for pain, it would have helped with respirations and the fact that she was drowning in her own saliva. THAT WAS HARD TO LISTEN TO and she finally got morphine at my insistence and the hospice nurse coming back to order it. she passed away about 10 minutes later. I would recommend Brookdale to other people, when you sign the contract be sure that you know more about the money end of it. i would like to see these homes try to get the state regulations changed about the restraints, i mean bed rails not straight jackets. Thank you Tanya for everything! april howell
