If you care and love your family, never put any of them in here. Most of the staff are not trained to handle people in memory care, several times when calling my family and I were either hung up on by rude staff, or told we would get a call back then never received a call. There are a few great staff there, but they can't make up for the number of bad staff. The management has switched out of there so many times, it's a guessing game of who is actually running things. They require you to store products for your loved one in a locked storage room, that only the staff has access to, and then either steal items or use them on other resident. They stole $70 worth of products for my loved one, and when management was notified, they went silent. Save yourself the aggravation and look else where. The Assistant Director, which is also their head nurse, has no bedside manner, is rude, and has an attitude. If your loved one is not heavily medicated don't bother, because they will make up accusations about it your loved one, while not telling the family or their own psychiatrist on staff, to discharge your loved one. Their kitchen, and especially the fridge in the kitchen in memory care is nasty and unsanitary. I know because one of the staff showed me it since I brought food for my loved one. I would stay clear of this location, and recommend doing research and a more thorough tour to see all the problems, as well as ask all the questions. If I had to do it over I would have kept searching and found something better for my loved one, which is what I'm doing now. One last thing, they also like to sneak charges in so if you do go with this location scrutinize the bill completely. Even when I pointed out charges that shouldn't be there they still continued to charge me for stuff. I wish I would have taken the reviews I saw more serious because they were accurate.

My father is living at Commonwealth in Hampton on Topping Lane. He moved in about 3 weeks ago. It was a difficult move for him because he had lived in his other place for many years. Commonwealth has really been there for him. The people there care for him like family! They go out of their way always showing kindness. The aides, med techs, techs, house keeping, food service, maintenance and front desk employees are all warm and welcoming!! It's the people that make the place!! We are very happy that we made this move for him. Update It has been 6 months now since my dad moved in. They have truly gotten to know him and have a personal plan for him. There are many special workers there that have meant so much. I'll name a few... Deneen, Elma, Mariah, and Tory.. I'll need to update this with some more!!! This place couldn't not run without these and other very dedicated employees!

Please, pay attention to the negative reviews! The facility is poorly maintained (on move-in day the room was filthy; backdoor handle was broken w/easy access to courtyard unsupervised; furniture is old and dirty etc.), staff is poorly trained and lacks quality communication skills (they do not actively monitor patients progress; inadequate care logs are kept; phones calls are not returned; allow patients to not bathe for weeks etc.), and willing to "kick out" patients w/o notice by making up claims that suit their narrative unbeknownst to the family members. I absolutely would not place a family member at this facility unless you plan to visit every other day for quality assurance checks. Care services are overpriced, care team is inadequately trained, senior staff lacks transparency and professionalism, and to top it all off, they "misplaced" overstock items purchased by the family. No thanks!!! There are better places in Suffolk, VA and Virginia Beach, VA.

Lakeisha Veney, RCA helped get our sister, Victoria Applewhite ready for us to take her out for her 81st birthday. Ms. Lakeisha was very helpful and pleasant throughout the entire process. Kudos to her!! Thank you Lakeisha. Please continue to show this type of care to all of the residents. We appreciate your dedication to excellence. 😊

Devida, CNA & Keisha CNA gives good care. Both ladies give attentive care. Keisha is great using the Hoyer lift and transporting me from bed to wheelchair. I like Devida's help with clothing coordination. Devida is gentle and thorough with bathing & cleaning me up. Gayle Shephard under stands my body type concerns and fears and helps me to get comfortable with my personal care.
