This review is a tale of two sides. Five Star independent living and assisted living. My mother in law was living in the independent side for about 4 years and it was good, no problems. As she aged we needed to move her to the other side for more care.
After we got to the assisted living, we were told she needed 24 hour care and we needed to hire an aid. Due to financial constraints because we were already paying about 6k a month, there was no way we could afford that. So we asked could we hire an aid for 6 hours a day and they said yes. So this was an additional $4,500 a month.
After about a week my mother in law was unable to walk anymore due to a fall, they said that’s no problem, we can bring her food to her in bed, as it is in their policy to do so. Well they didn’t happen.
Our aid said the food was consistently left by the door, and my wife saw it there for herself.
On another note, my mother in law would call 15 to 20 times a day telling us how terrible the place is, how rough they were changing her, how lonely she was due to lack of attention, as they are supposed to stop in every 2 hours, and she would tell us they didn’t. She would also tell us she hated it there.
There was one time my mother law was so upset, we called the facility to make sure they were giving her the anti anxiety medication the doctor prescribed as needed. The nurse never called back, so we tried again and the nurse never returned our call. So after 2 months we decided to move her out.
As everyone knows moving anyone is a huge hassle, but after looking we found a place, and she is much happier now.
But as we were moving out on the second to last day we were approached by there Director of Health and Wellness and it appeared she wanted some feedback as to why we were moving mom out. As my wife and her were discussing the reasons I added that “she hated it here, and she’ll probably hate it everywhere” because that is what we thought would happen, because she was SO unhappy at this stage in her life, luckily we were wrong about that cause as I said she’s much happier now.
But as soon as I finished my comment their Director of Health and Wellness looked me in the eye and said “you’re a liar”. Now I had only met this woman one time and that was about a month before just to say hello, nice to meet you. In my wife and I’s lifetime we had never seen an employee of any business so unprofessional.
This review is just to make you aware of these things that happened to us.
We did get apologies from this woman’s superiors but never from her.

Think twice and do your homework before placing your loved one at this facility. Our mother lived at this Assisted Living for 11 months and every single month presented incredible challenges. Her care was BARE MINIMUM at best.
Bare minimum house keeping.
Bare minimum hygiene.
Repeated and documented lapses in her medication schedule and twice her medications were mixed up.
She received ZERO assistance at meal time which resulted in significant weight loss. When COVID outbreaks occur, and they will occur everywhere, this facility delivers meals to each residents room in a bag tied in a tight knot that most elderly people cannot open and there will be ZERO support or assistance given to your loved one. Each elderly residents is expected to fend for themselves for weeks!
The level of neglect was and is astonishing.
Our family has over TWENTY written complaints which yielded little to no resolution. We have many photographs that show filthy floors, filthy bathrooms, mold in the shower, and staff congregating in hallways instead of tending to residents.
They boast about laundry services but the washing machines and dryers are very small yet the staff will cram it beyond capacity and clothes are not thoroughly cleaned. Beds are made even if the sheets are soiled or blood stained.
They boast having cute little patios at each apartment but housekeeping doesn’t clean this area at all. The rooms are poorly lit and the showers are quite unsafe as they have a significant ledge to step over, which is dangerous.
The staff has very little regard or respect for residents and all day long they are speaking loudly in the hallways at eachother completely ignorant of how disruptive or disturbing this can be to the elderly.

The staff at this facility are amazing. This is a mission-driven organization that treats the residents as if they are members of their own family. I am so relieved that my mother lives in a place that I can trust. The facility itself is also quite nice and they put the investment in to keep the place in great shape. I feel lucky that my mother moved here and I highly recommend Five Star Premier Residences of Plantation.

My mom moved into Five Star Residences of Plantation about 1.5 years ago, and I have visited her many times. In short, its a great place to live, she is 79. The food is really good in the dining room, and the staff are all very respectful and the activities are well planned and fun for her.
We also like the fact that there is in house wellness center, and a home health aid office right there.
She got sick, had problems walking, it didn't seem to be getting better, so we felt we needed to move her to assisted somewhere else. Well, she healed up and now I'm moving her back in. Thanks to David and Maria in the front office for helping out and being compassionate. We love 5 Star and would recommend it to anyone considering a senior community.

Unfortunately, I am stuck posting an accurate yet negative review to hopefully get the attention of ownership for a multitude of reasons. My relative moved in approximately 6 months ago and, in that short time, so many things have gone downhill.
The dining was reasonable and sometimes good for about one month, then an abrupt and obvious change happened. Many key kitchen personnel evidently quit and the food quality, preparation, and service suffered immensely. Proper hiring has not taken place and residents are being provided with an awful dining and food experience. It’s so obvious that this boils down to not wanting to spend money on the right chef and kitchen/dining staff.
Recently, this property also lost the general manager. The results of this loss are nearly as evident as the dining deficiencies. Even basic requests aren’t fulfilled. For instance, my relative’s filter for their AC hasn’t been changed in months, despite a request. Not nearly as large as the dining issues, but just a minor example of the trajectory of even the most basic day to day issue management.
I am confident that with hiring of proper personnel and better attention to management and care for residents that this is a property that can return to where it was when it was actually receiving good reviews. When it does, I will gladly revise this review.
Unfortunately this is a population of residents that often refuse to speak for themselves on Google, but I hope they start to shed light on what is going on here.
