Trusted Senior Home Care Since 1994
Paul and Lori Hogan founded Home Instead, Inc. in 1994 in Omaha, Nebraska. Paul's own family experience caring for his grandmother led him to realize many families could use the help of an in-home caregiver. He and Lori set about creating a company to help seniors to live independently at home. That mission still drives the company and its franchise network today.
Home Instead, Inc. began franchising in 1995. Today, the Home Instead Senior Care network has grown to include more than 1,000 franchises around the world -- including this office in Pleasant Hills, PA. While our franchise network is international, our office is local. And to us, senior home care is personal.

Home Instead Pleasant Hills
I do NOT recommend the Home Instead, Pleasant Hills (nor the Export location, also owned by David Baron). My family hired Home Instead to care for our mother at great cost for the period of approximately 10 years. There were ups and downs. Our primary goal was the safety and care of our mother. Instead, our mother suffered two falls while under the case of Home Instead staff. The first fall occurred on the watch (or lack thereof) of a young substitute caregiver who clearly wasn’t keeping her eyes on mom (more likely on her phone). Mom had to go to the hospital after that fall and returned home with black and blue bruises all over her face and body.
More recently our mother suffered a second and fatal fall at the hands of another caregiver from this Home Instead franchise, who didn’t follow instructions. This caregiver had been notified on the prior shift by the earlier shift caregiver that Mom was shaky, and that follow up caregiver shouldn’t walk Mom up the steps. Rather she should help Mom to go up the steps one at a time from a seated position or safely wait until the night shift caregiver arrived, as there would be two caregivers present. Ironically, the second shift caregiver also noted that mom was shaky, and noted in writing that she “told my mother that it was all in her head.” She then directed our mother to walk up the steps anyway and allowed her to fall. Mom's fall was fatal, requiring surgery. Instead of visiting mom last Christmas, we held her funeral service and buried her after complications of the resulting required surgery.
There were perhaps two very good caregivers whom Mom really liked. Unfortunately, they were assigned to other clients as well, and Mom had to adapt to a revolving door of caregivers.
Even upon request, David Baron wouldn’t so much as provide name tags for the caregivers, so that Mom (and other clients) could know who was coming and going in her own home with this revolving door caregiver situation.
If selecting a home care agency had been solely my decision, I would have changed the caregiver organization many years earlier. In my experience, this franchise owner does not properly train caregivers.
This is one of the places I researched for my Father And I think im going to go with them. Everything they offer to help was exactly what we are looking for and from other research on this company seems as though they have wonderful caregivers.
A relative of mine needed assistance because she could no longer drive and was beginning to have cognitive issues.
I met with the Home Instead Staff who then subsequently came out to assess the situation. I also provided them with a typical 'care agenda' of days and key items that would be helpful to do with my relative. I had them come for three 4-hour shifts each week to provide transportation and care for my relative.
The caregivers that were assigned were thoroughly briefed on any issues with my relative as well as the proposed schedule. All of them were kind, caring and professional. You could see that they were genuinely concerned about approaching my relative the right way, getting my relative engaged and being supportive to the relative's needs.
The caregivers would do 'little things' that were above and beyond, like check that groceries were supplied AND were also still fresh and not spoiled. They'd lookout for tripping hazards and put them in order. When going out on drives they would take different routes, make other interesting stops, do other things to vary the routine to assure that the trip was interesting and something to look forward to.
Perhaps the best testament to their service is that my relative has called me several times after a Home Instead visit to express delight about the wonderful afternoon that they just had.
Home Instead's scheduling personnel go out of their way to provide consistency with caregivers so that they know the routine of the person that they are assisting. If there is a change from regular personnel, any caregiver who arrives is fully briefed on the needs of the person that they are caring for. They also provide me an alert when this happens so I'm aware should there be any issues.
The best thing that I can say is that there have been NO ISSUES.
I'd strongly recommend using Home Instead because they take their job seriously, understand your concerns and treat their clients with personal care and respect.
I am disabled and when my spouse went into the hospital for an extended period. I needed assistance quickly. I got it pretty fast from Home Instead. I liked my caregivers and would get help from them again. Liz was very friendly and responsive as the case manager. I think they are a little pricey and have rules about minimum amounts of care that didnt fit me as well as I would have liked, but they were available quickly and the caregivers were friendly and helpful.
I have used Home Instead twice this year 2023 and I am very pleased with the service. The home care workers were punctual and professional and very helpful. The coordinator Elizabeth worked with me to insure everything was satisfactory. It;s reassuring to know that in the future, I have a place to turn to for help. A Class Act.
