I have been supporting a friend through end-of-life care with her father. She has hired Compassionate Care Hospice and has felt their care has helped. However, this last week when she asked for more pain meds because she knew the prescription would run out over the weekend, the hospice nurse did not listen to her. Over the weekend, when the meds ran out, the on-call hospice nurse responded SLOWLY and then sent the wrong dose to the hospice physician. This was discovered later at the pharmacy and reported to the on-call nurse. There was no timely response, no updated prescription, and the pharmacy was closing. This meant my friend's father went without adequate pain meds from Saturday night to Monday morning. He was in unbearable pain, and the family was extremely upset. The hospice nurses did not show compassion and did not help problem solve. Three staff members failed to provide care that was consistent with the principles of hospice care: to relieve pain and to help families cope. While the majority of the care they have received has been acceptable, this experience was unacceptable, unethical and cruel. Be aware that even as a grieving family member you need to advocate for your loved ones, make sure you hire caring professionals, and that you are heard and well supported.

Our family received great care and support from Compassionate Care in Alexandria - in particular, Bill T, Tiffany and Allison - the BEST in difficult times.

My grandmother was a patient with Compassionate Care, on Friday October 18, 2024 my 92 year old grandmother (whom has dementia) blood pressure was rapidly dropping and her oxygen was low, my mom called Compassionate Care to notify them what was going on and they told her they would get a nurse out to Boyce to do an assessment but due to the urgency of the situation, my mom had to call the ambulance to come and get my grandmother to the ER before it was to late, my grandmother stayed in the hospital for almost 2 days, she was released on Sunday October 20, 2024…my mom received a call from Compassionate Care and was informed they dropped my grandmother from the agency because she didn’t wait for a nurse to come out and do an assessment and they have no way of billing, now we’re talking about a persons life and an agency being concerned about billing, this is very rude and unprofessional, Compassionate Care isn’t very compassionate when it comes to their patients, if that’s how they feel about their patients, then they shouldn’t be in business, I get that no one is going to love your family the way you do but at least show some type of compassion, I would never recommend this company, very bad experience

Compassionate Care offered so much comfort and support. They explained everything that was happening and were always caring. It was such a relief to have access to a nurse 24/7 to answer questions and make recommendations. All of the hospice team treated my husband like he was family. Even after he passed away, they called to check on me. I highly recommend this company.
