ATHERTON BAPTIST HOMES Position Description Title: Certified Nursing Assistant Reports to: Dir of Nursing Department: Nursing Effective Date: March, 2018 PURPOSE OF POSITION: The purpose of the Certified Nursing Assistant is to provide nursing care in accordance with established policies and procedures and as may be directed by the charge nurse, nursing supervisor, or Director of Nursing to assure the highest degree of quality resident care is maintained at all times. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Perform duties accordant to nursing services policies and procedures, the facility educational program while demonstrating knowledge and competence. • Provide direct resident care as assigned, completing assignments accurately, in a timely manner, and without violating resident rights and according to the plan of care. • Identify and report unusual problems, incidents or changes in condition to the charge nurse or supervisor in a timely manner. • Demonstrate consistent ability to work cooperatively with residents, charge nurses, treatment nurses, other nursing assistants, physicians, family members, consultants and ancillary providers of care. • Document in the nursing assistant notes each shift regarding care and treatment provided to each resident and the resident’s response or lack of response to care. • Answer call lights of any resident in a timely manner. • Demonstrate an attitude of cooperation and enthusiasm during instruction and in resident care activities. • Participate in resident care conferences and other facility meetings assigned. • Attend and participate in inservice educational programs. • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, positive emphasis and a calm environment throughout the facility. • Participates in the development of an individualized plan of care for each resident, reviews the plan and performs nursing care as outlined. • Assumes responsibility for following facility procedures related to control of equipment and supplies. • Speaks to residents and family members in a kind, thoughtful manner and listens to them attentively. REQUIRED OTHER FUNCTIONS: • Attend departmental and all-staff in-services and continuing education programs. • Observe and practice safety and infection control procedures. • Protect resident’s rights and confidentiality at all times. • Be able to work harmoniously with co-workers. • Be able to deal tactfully with residents, family members and visitors. • Comes to work on time in a clean, neat uniform and consistently adheres to facility the dress code. • Performs other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIRED: • Must be able to read, write and speak the English language. • Completion of a state approved CNA certification program. • Previous experience is preferred. MENTAL DEMANDS: • May be subject to multiple calls and frequent interruptions. • May be subject to emotionally upset residents, family members or visitors. • Must be able to work with ill and disabled elders. PHYSICAL DEMANDS (See attached Statement of Physical Requirements and Conditions) WORKING CONDITIONS: • May be called on to work beyond normal work hours when necessary. • May be called on to work in areas not normally assigned when necessary. • Works in a well-lighted and ventilated work area.
