Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Job Description
The LPN Charge Nurse is responsible for the well being and nursing care of all residents assigned to him or her during the shift. Reporting to the Supervisor, he or she provides nursing services following the resident’s treatment plan or physician’s directions, assesses residents and responds to and reports any changes in condition, distributes and charts medications, distributes narcotics and manages the narcotic inventory, supervises the staff of Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA), and responds to emergencies. Fluent English speaking and writing skills, empathy and the ability to listen, good time management skills, and professional dress, speech, and behavior are all required for this position. Assigns resident care according to the needs of the resident and the unit Transcribes, verifies, and implements physician’s orders Reports significant changes in condition to physician, supervisor, and family Administers medications in a safe and timely manner and completes appropriate documentation Documents episodic events for residents and completes all pertinent documentation, including checking MARs, Treatment Sheets, and monthly summaries Counsels and/or disciplines CNAs per facility policy Makes regular rounds to ensure resident care, environmental safety, and employee performance Implements QI recommendations Maintains current CPR certification Current, unencumbered state license as a Licensed Practical Nurse Two years of progressive nursing experience, preferably in a long term care setting Knowledge of state and local regulations regarding long term care An up-beat and engaging personality
