Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS: Be licensed and in good standing with the State of Minnesota or must within four (4) months of employment have completed State required training and a competency evaluation program. Have ability to read, write and follow oral and written directions at a level necessary to accomplish the job. Current CPR certification is advantageous. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Ability to follow established performance standards and perform nursing care duties according to nursing service policies and procedures. 2. Ability to assist new employees in following established facility policies and procedures. 3. Ability to conduct resident rounds and provide direct resident care as assigned. 4. Ability to initiate corrective action as necessary and/or seek assistance of a Professional Nurse. 5. Ability to identify safety hazards and emergency situations, and initiate corrective action. 6. Ability to assume accountability for compliance with federal, state and local regulations within the unit assigned and within his/her span of control. 7. Ability to report changes in condition or incidents to Charge Nurse or Supervisor. 8. Ability to document incidents and/or unusual problems according to established facility procedures. 9. Ability to participate in residents care conference and other facility meetings and education programs as assigned. 10. Ability to review care plans and performs nursing care as outlined. 11. Ability to follow facility’s procedures for admission, discharge and transfer of residents. 12. Ability to listen to resident and family complaints and report problems to Charge Nurse. 13. Ability to answer call lights. 14. Ability to provide care to all residents assigned. 15. Ability to take residents to the dining room, serve and remove meal trays and assist with feeders. 16. Ability to pull up side rails and roll beds down. 17. Ability to change incontinent residents. 18. Ability to walk ambulatory residents, including to bathroom every 2 hours and as requested. 19. Ability to make sure all residents are offered nourishments. 20. Ability to complete tub baths, showers, or bed baths. 21. Ability to turn and reposition all bed and chair residents every two hours. 22. Ability to place bed pans, linen, washbasins, & soiled linen in proper area. 23. Ability to complete food percentage, intake and output, bowel, & bladder records, empty and record all urinary drainage units. 24. Ability to observe infection control procedures. 25. Ability to follow Resident’s rights policies at all times. 26. Ability to consistently work cooperatively with residents, charge nurses, treatment nurses, restorative assistants, other nursing assistants, physicians, families, consultant personnel and ancillary service providers. 27. Ability to work in a clean, neat uniform and consistently presents a professional appearance. 28. Ability to come to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality. 29. Ability to perform in: an inside environment, normal temperature, adequate lighting, possible exposure to infectious diseases, blood borne pathogens and unpleasant sights and smells. 30. Ability to hear, speak, feel, and communicate to perform essential job functions. 31. Ability to position, transfer, assist & lift to perform essential job functions. 32. Ability to adapt to emergency situations. 33. Ability to use good communication to interact with residents, staff, and departments to promote resident well-being and motivate others. 34. Ability to maintain a safe and sanitary environment. 35. Ability to abide by the facility’s policies, procedures, and practices. 36. Ability to perform other duties as directed.
