Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Job Description
GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB. The LPN Charge Nurse is responsible for providing direct nursing care to the residents in an assigned unit under the direction of the shift supervisor and supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by the nursing assistants. STANDARD REQUIREMENTS · Is knowledgeable of resident rights and ensures an atmosphere which allows for the privacy, dignity and well-being of all residents in a safe, secure environment · Supports and cooperates with specific procedures and programs for: · Safety, including universal precautions and safe work practices, established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security, report and/or correct unsafe working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance needs · Confidentiality of all data including resident, employee and operations data · Quality Improvement and compliance with all regulatory requirements · Compliance with current law and policy to provide a work environment free from sexual harassment and all illegal discriminatory behavior · Supports and participates in common teamwork: · Cooperates and works together with all co-workers · Uses tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional situations · Follows up as appropriate with supervisor, co-workers or residents regarding reported complaints, problems and concerns · Completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, uniform and dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. · Give and receive condition report from the on-coming and off-going shift · Make rounds and routine checks on patients/residents · Observe and report symptoms and conditions of residents/patients · Administer treatments and medications as prescribed by a physician · Maintain records reflecting resident condition and treatment including nurses notes, discharge plans, resident assessments, doctor’s orders, etc. · Notify physician when resident’s condition warrants · Admit, transfer and discharge residents according to policy. · Review, monitor, intervene and report complaints/grievances made by residents, families, etc. · Perform emergency procedures such as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and report accidents or incidents in a timely manner · Assign duties to non-professional nursing personnel and supervise and evaluate work performance · Monitor and update care plans each shift as appropriate · Maintain a physical, social and psychological environment which is conducive to the interest and welfare of the residents. · Investigate and report employee incidents according to company policy and coordinate return to work programs with Human Resources · Participates in appropriate meetings and training SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Does this job have supervisory responsibilities?
