THE OAKS AT SWEETEN CREEK

Today we picked up my Father in Law. The staff lined the Hall, played Celebration, gave him a certificate, clapped for him and made his day. He just loved Karen the administrator and Hazel the Therapy director. He loved all the nurses and the entire staff. This was an experience that has helped him in a very trying time. We greatly appreciate everyone there. We didn't encounter one single person that didn’t leave us encouraged.

This is a truly amazing facility who provides great care for their residents. They are so creative and dedicated to finding great ways to bringing them joy! Ever since my mom passed away from Alzheimer's / Dementia and I spent some special time with her at her own nursing home back in Iowa, I really wanted to find a local facility to volunteer to pay forward all the wonderful love and care my mom received from hers. Thankfully, I was able to connect with one of the incredible staff at The Oaks and Sweeten Creek and she arranged for my family to come monthly to volunteer and bring some joy to the residents there. My 9 year old son is a pianist and he plays music for them. There were a variety of residents in attendance and it was clear that music is such a universal language. My daughter is a great artist and she will be joining us next month to create drawings for the residents. We also own a small farm and will plan to bring cuddly farm animals to visit with them as well. I feel so fortunate and grateful to live in such a wonderful community with opportunities like this to teach our children creative ways to volunteer their time! The residents are all so lovely and the staff is clearly loving and so dedicated to them in their care.

Husband was transferred at 9:30pm Friday night and we had EMT's come get him at 6:30pm Saturday. When we got there his door was the only one shut on that wing and when we walked in, it was 90 something degrees in there. Someone had turned the heat on high full blast. It wasn't him, he can't walk. He was half hanging off the bed soaked in sweat. When I asked, no one knew. I asked that the give him some pain meds (recent leg above the knee amputation from gangrene toes) and the nurse walks in with 2 Tylenol? He just came from Mission where they were giving him diladid and oxy. They were real quick on getting EMTs there to take him back to the hospital.

They have some of the hatefulness nursing assistance there is they don’t do right by all patients they pick and choose who they want to be courteous too Patients rooms are nasty. The floors are not mopped or stuff swept from under the beds.

This has been a horrible experience for my Father. Would not recommend for anyone’s loved one. For a facility that should be rehabilitating people to transition home, they do nothing. He was in far worse condition on being discharged than when he arrived. When he came in, we had all his personal possessions become, “lost” and we never got them back. This facility has been a complete nightmare. The care is horrible!!
