My family and I are incredibly grateful for the exceptional care Northbrook provided for my aunt. From the moment she arrived, the staff treated her with genuine warmth, respect, and compassion. It was clear that this wasn’t just a job for them, every nurse, aide, and team member went above and beyond to make sure she was comfortable, safe, and truly cared for. They took the time to get to know her, understand her needs, and support her in ways that felt personal and heartfelt. Whether it was checking in on her just a little more often, taking an extra moment to talk with her when she felt lonely, or keeping us informed and reassured, the team consistently showed a level of dedication that exceeded anything we expected. Northbrook didn’t just provide care, they gave our family peace of mind. Knowing she was surrounded by such attentive and compassionate people made all the difference. We are deeply appreciative of everything they did for her, and we highly recommend Northbrook to any family looking for a place where their loved one will be treated with dignity, kindness, and exceptional care. Thank you to the most incredible staff!

To say I am writing this with absolute and utter disgust is an understatement. I am writing this in anger. My grandfather was admitted to this facility after speaking with the director, who reassured us he would be properly cared for. He was transported from Mercy on the afternoon of 11/14. What followed was nothing short of neglect. On the very first night, I requested that he be given a shower because they did not even have him scheduled for one. During that same visit, a nurse came in for “snack time.” When my grandfather asked what something was, she slammed the juice down and said, “It’s prune juice. It’ll make you poop.” Absolutely unprofessional and completely unnecessary. The next morning, 11/15, I walked in to find my grandfather hunched over in his wheelchair with his head laying on his tray. He had been showered and left in that position until we arrived. He had been waiting on breakfast for an hour and a half, yet once we showed up, it magically appeared—while every other resident had already eaten and had their plates cleared. He was over-medicated to the point he couldn’t even hold his water bottle. I had to hold it for him because he physically could not. He wasn’t eating anything, and no one seemed to care. They continued feeding him medication with no food, no assistance, no concern at all. When medication was brought in, every single time I asked what it was. Not once did anyone give an answer. The response was always, “I’m not sure.” One nurse even told us, “I wasn’t here last night, so I don’t know.” How can you administer medication without knowing what you’re giving a patient? We used the call light, and it took 45 minutes—yes, forty-five minutes—for a nurse to even walk into the room. We had been bringing him smoothies because it was the only thing he might drink. He left the room for two hours, and when he came back, the smoothie was on the floor face-down. Not one staff member had checked on him during that entire time. Two hours of absolutely no supervision or care. By the time we reached Tuesday, things were even worse. He had not been showered since Saturday morning. When we arrived that day, he wouldn’t get up for breakfast. The nurse’s solution was to literally yell in his face, “Do you want breakfast?” And when he didn’t answer, she huffed and puffed, stormed off, and grabbed another nurse. We had him immediately removed from their care Tuesday morning and admitted to the hospital. There, they immediately found he was severely dehydrated, going through kidney failure, and his body was quite literally shutting down. The reason we could not wake him up on Tuesday was because his system was failing. There was dried blood on the side of his mouth. His eyes were crusted over. And I am confident his teeth had not been brushed since the day he left the hospital on Thursday. I am LIVID. This level of neglect is beyond comprehension. If you care about your loved one, do not bring them here. Not even for a second. I expect a response to this review, and I expect this to be reviewed thoroughly with your staff. Action needs to be taken immediately to ensure that no other family experiences what we just went through. This is unacceptable. I want answers as to why my grandfather was treated this way. Are we truly hiring anyone these days? I will say this: there was one nurse, Karen (petite, dark hair) who was phenomenal. She recognized how overmedicated he was and began adjusting his meds (which other staff apparently ignored). She noticed his breathing, got him on oxygen, and consistently checked on him. She was the only bright spot in this entire nightmare. Everyone else? They need serious training, accountability, and oversight.

Beware! If you take your loved one here they will come out worse then when they arrived. You will be lied to, your concerns will be ignored and not one single person seems to care. Then when things get worse they will do everything they can to cover it up and make it look like they did everything right!!!

Northbrook is truly a gem in the world of nursing and rehab facilities. The Administrator is incredibly caring and leads with genuine compassion, which really sets the tone for the entire team. The staff go above and beyond every day, they’re attentive, professional, and deeply dedicated to the residents' well-being. It's clear that everyone here is committed to creating a safe, supportive, and healing environment. I would absolutely recommend Northbrook to anyone looking for quality care for their loved ones.

DO NOT recommend. This place doesn’t take care of their patients correctly and is just a terrible place overall. My dad came in already in bad condition and came out 10x worse.
