When the nursing staff lie to you about the meds they give your loved one, there is a big problem. They keep them drugged so that they don't have to deal with them. When they wait for you to leave so they can treat your loved one as they chose, there's a problem. Everything is "their policy" even though your loved ones doctor says different. I read through the material they gave me on admission...their policy is what's easiest not what is written. They only check on your loved ones, once during the night. The admission director was quite excited to see the level of insurance my loved one has. They put my loved one in the community room to listen to Christmas music as PT then left him there all day. It is SO loud in there. Just because the residents are hard of hearing doesn't mean you have everything loud! Christmas music, with the TV blaring, announcements, and nurses cackling at the nurses station. What is wrong with this whole scenario? Everything! Even when former and current staff tell you all the issues. I have no idea how they have 4 stars.

Outstanding care here. All the staff, nurses to aides, took excellent care of my mother. They were also concerned with my father's and my comfort. Everyone was professional yet also compassionate - there were so many kindnesses that took extra effort on their part. The management has created a great culture here, not easy to do with the challenges of staffing today. We are blessed to have a facility like this in our community.

I fell at the end of February and suffered a nasty break to my femur. After surgery it was determined that I needed rehab. I truly wasn't sure that I'd ever walk again. Almost three months later I'm getting around with a wheelchair/walker/rollator and have just returned home. Without fail, the folks at NHC have guided me on the path to where I am now. They have been supportive, occasionally used tough love when needed, but always made me feel safe. I can never thank them enough for all they've done for me.

Everything was great except for our experience with 1 tall, rude, blonde-haired nurse , but it was so awful I have to give the whole facility a low score because they allow her to work there. On the morning of my mother’s discharge day, she was having a stroke and kept telling this nurse she felt like she was falling, felt weak, back was hurting, felt like she had no control over her limbs. The nurse was rude and asked if she wanted to go to the hospital. My mom said “no” because she felt as if she was burdening this nurse. I was on the phone with my mom, in route to pick her up. She was telling me how she felt. When I saw her they were dressing a “limp noodle” and asking her “can you lift this arm to put in your blouse?” Etc etc. I immediately knew something was different and alerted this tall, rude, blonde-haired nurse. She said she didn’t see any difference in my mom and has worked with her before and nothing is different. She also said “your mom doesn’t want to go to the hospital when I asked.” The CNA who was bathing her said something is definitely different. Just as I said I would call 9-1-1 myself, the nurse decided she would. My concern: Staff kept saying she was a good nurse….so why did she watch my mom have a stroke for an hour and behave rudely and not proactively call ER? She was so rude when I arrived it was unbelievable because she knew I disagreed with her assessment of my mom. She refused to speak to me on my way out and wouldn’t even LOOK at me. She gave my moms belongings to a nurse supervisor that I have never spoken to before. ER came in to assess my mother right outside her room and also said this looked like a stroke. My mother, in fact, WAS having a stroke and ended up in the hospital for a month with swallowing issues, loss of use of right hand and right leg. The nurse never apologized and behaved like a 15 year old. Others apologized FOR her. I often wonder if my mother would be in better shape had this nurse listened and used her expertise to help my mom, rather than being rude to a 75 year old in the midst of a life-changing stroke. Update: My mom ended up in the hospital for 5 months trying to learn how to walk again and regain strength and learn to swallow. She finally was sent home to Hospice where she died a few months after this incident.
