My relationship with Brookwood began as I transfered there post op from total knee reconstruction in Norman. I knew very little about the recovery side of surgery and places called skilled nursing facility. I just hoped for the best and decided to go all out on physical therapy and living skills with such a painful surgery in an all new place to me and family. I may add 2w years prior I had a terrible knee injury. I did physical therapy 3 times a week for a year, so i knew what exercises were good and i knew it would here. Sometimes we need difficulty to push our limits in recovery scenarios. My miscellaneous observations are as such and in no particular order. The facilities on this organization are custom made for their services. The rooms and sreas are spacious overall and well kept. The food had good meals and bad. I had been eating in my room when I decided to go to the dining room. J quickly saw the food was actually warm to hot, you may get seconds, and the chatting was nice. Breakfast is best, lunch is last, dinner is second best. But in that high level of pain you don't eat much really. I didn't try laundry out after staff warned me things frquently get wahed. Additionally it did not seem that ample blankets were available and got cold a little but the pain medicine knocked you out. Now, on the topic of Brookwood and pain. This is where they are most talented and employees share this culture of staying ahead of your pain so you can get maximum physical therapy treatments, rest, and help with the the discomforts. You do not feel guilty taking pain meds or asking for them within your Doctor's wishes. The Miracle. Everyone's goal is to meet recovery standards and get discharged back home. The second day in the hospital P. T. I walked 8 feet. Discharge is 100 feet. I then transferred to Brookwood and continued. On day 17 I walked with a walker 75 feet. On 18 I walked 235 feet with a walker and was severly sore the next day. On the 21st day there with a walker I walked non-stop for 708 feet. The faith in the process. acknowledge their were obstacles and sacrificing pain creating P T. rituals compared to laying around feeling sorry for yourself or just a failure to set goals and challenge your recovery steps to get doscharge criteria. Dimple me. I got duscharged quickly when I walked over 608 foot the minimum that was set. Sore to the touch everywhere on my injured leg. Well. they accidentally left me in my bed with a wheel chair and walker out of reach. So J grabbed my faithful cane and limped into the bathroom. At physical therapy I explained I wanted to try out my cane and walked 240 feet with it. Final thoughts, they have excellent transportation needs. They also have case management and will set me up with home therapist. Yhey helped me appeal my first discharge date and that added about 6 more days to get good p.t. pain care, wound care, and observation. A doctor working for my doctor came by and checked on me every morning. That was comforting My surgeon, the lead surgeon couldnt do it all, but it was vlear organizationally and interorganizationally they were experienced, tried and true and had all the ingredients staff, facilities, and medical knowledge that things were always covered as needed. Well. today was my first day home. 23 days ago I could only walk 10 feet. Today I use no walker but my cane to help. I already know my other leg needs the same and I'll head to Surgeon Mark Moses and Brookeood for my future orthopedic health. Thank you. Brent Jones Ph.D. Professor Emeritus

I want to say thank you to all the staff who’s made my mom’s experience a welcoming and warm experience while she received her therapy. Starting off with the tour from Amanda and the reassurance from everyone that mom will be well taken care of. The staff really worked hard for my mother and I value and appreciate every single person in the building who makes a daily effort to provide, serve and care for the people of this small community here at Brookwood. Thank you!

I've been in Brooklyn for a little while now and they're doing physical therapy on my hip and they're doing a fantastic job. The nurses here are wonderful and Amanda is very supportive and anything that you may come up with as far as a request they're more than happy to oblige. I appreciate the staff more than I can explain and also the lunch room facilities are above average so I want to thank the people at Brookwood the staff administration for helping with my leg and my hip thank you so much sincerely Randy Foister
