PORTHAVEN POST ACUTE

I am in awe at the professionalism from all the staff members from the doctors, nurses, physical therapists, dieticians, and respiratory therapists social workers and CNAs. This facility has every professional on hand and readily accessible. My elderly frail mother got very compassionate care and everyone was very kind. My mother also had a good roommate which helped. I 100% recommend this facility to everyone.

Porthaven Post Acute is an amazing facility. The new management has really allowed the building to flourish, creating a community with excellent care and a true family like bond. My grandpa was in this facility and they took such good care of him. From the administrator down to the CNAs, everyone truly cares. The staff are always attentive and supportive. Porthaven was recently (Fall 2024) acquired by a new healthcare group and the new team is great! The staff is very friendly and they have an obvious focus on taking care of people and building a good culture among the staff.

Criminally Overcrowded and Negligent If you care about your loved one’s safety, do not send them to PortHaven. My mother was admitted and on her first night, she called for assistance to use the restroom—no one came. She fell, fracturing her sternum and three ribs, and the facility waited eight hours before calling an ambulance. She is now crammed into an 8x6 ft partitioned space with two other patients, separated only by curtains. In the weeks she’s been there, I only received a single call from a doctor about her care, this was only after I threatened to report them. I had left multiple messages and even emailed the administrator and head of nursing—no one responded. This facility is dangerously understaffed, unresponsive, and negligent. I wouldn’t wish this level of “care” on anyone. Avoid at all costs. Worse, private pay for this is $500 a night or $15,000 a month. The only saving grace was the social worker Emily, who helped me and connected me with a third party- Brenda at Cares Solutions that helped me rescue my mom from Porthaven. Emily and Brenda were a godsend in a horrific situation.

Nursing staff and CNAs were competent and caring, with just a couple of bad apples thrown in to maintain the balance. I didn't particularly care for the food at all, but I don't believe that was the fault of the kitchen staff. I believe Fort Haven simply bought the cheapest food available, making it difficult to produce tasty meals. There were other aspects of the facility that I really didn't appreciate at all, but I will keep that to myself. All I can say is it could have been a lot worse, and I'm glad it wasn't.
