My 86 year old mom who suffers from dementia was at Friends House Rehabilitation/Nursing Home for six weeks after breaking her hip. What a wonderful place! I cannot say enough about the staff. Nurse Dora was so sweet and patient. She had a calming disposition and was easy to talk to. All the nursing aides who cared for her were kind and gentle. The physical therapy/occupational therapy department was amazing. Teresita, Linda and staff went out of their way to work with my mom. The in house physician Dr. Kim was very thorough and explained all aspects of her care and treatments. Everyone made sure she was as comfortable as possible during her stay. I would highly recommend Friends House!
On the third day of our heatwave my A/C stopped working. I called the front desk about 3:30. Within minutes Dorwick was at my cottage to assess the situation. He told me Nicholas would be by after he finished another job. He asked if I wanted some fans (I have fans). At 4:00 Nicholas was enduring the extreme heat next to the south facing wall, where the metal was probably hot enough to burn. He diagnosed compressor failure. He said he would order parts and be back in the morning and asked if I needed fans. He looked hot enough that I was worried about his health. Today Nicholas was back early and I had functioning A/C before 10:00 AM. In this kind of heatwave, if I had been a homeowner I would not have been able to get that kind of fast service. Thank you FH Maintenance!
I recently had the pleasure of attending the Friends House Wellness Expo—what a special event! The variety of vendors was truly impressive, ranging from home care to acupuncture, massage therapy, mobile prescriptions, and mental health services. Catia and Marie thought of everything—from shuttle services to a delicious homemade lunch. There was even a free sound bath demo! It was such a fantastic resource for the community, and I’m grateful to have been a part of the festivities. Not all communities go the extra mile to showcase such meaningful support for their residents the way Friends House does. Truly inspiring!
I moved in two months ago and was warmly welcomed and included in community events. I quickly felt as though I belonged here - centered and calm and peaceful. Almost everyone I've met, whether it be staff or residents, has been friendly and kind. The sense of community is quite strong and I can take part in it just as much as I want and just as I am. I'm so grateful!
Friends House Retirement/Rehabilitation Facility was the perfect fit for my 84-year-old mother's recovery from knee replacement surgery. The nurses, occupational and physical therapists, doctor, nurses' head, activity directors, food delivery staff, nutritionist, and cleaning crew were all very caring, friendly, and willing to assist in various ways. They are well-staffed, experienced, and consistent. With a bright attitude, this facility is clean and sunny. The admissions director, Chris T., was excellent throughout the admission process, answering questions before and during the stay. The phone was my constant communication with her while I was out of state. At Friends House, I felt confident in the care she received. During my mother's 10-week stay, the slower pace and relaxed atmosphere suited her perfectly. The physical therapy and occupational therapy gave her the rehab she needed to make her way home. Activities were provided to keep her engaged, filling her schedule, time, and enjoyment throughout her stay. Friends House in Sandy Springs, Maryland, is located in a serene part of Maryland and offered us exactly what we needed and did not disappoint. ANOTHER GREAT EXPERIENCE, when she went back again! (after the second knee replacement, the following year). Friends House Rehabilitation Facility provides exceptional care, making it our top choice for my mother's rehabilitation following her second knee replacement at the age of 85. Once again, Friends House demonstrated its commitment to quality care through its skilled nursing staff, dedicated doctor who visits weekly, nursing aides, physical therapists, occupational therapists, facility director, Chris Trump, and countless other employees who make this facility exceptional. Each professional plays an integral role in fostering a caring and supportive environment that promotes recovery. Located near the serene town of Olney, Maryland, the facility offers a peaceful setting that adds to the healing process. Friends House delivers consistent care from the moment a patient arrives, executing a well-organized rehabilitation plan designed to help patients regain mobility and independence. The staff encourages patients through frequent evaluations and personalized goals, ensuring they feel supported and motivated throughout their recovery. Having trusted Friends House for my mother's second stay, I once again, experienced peace of mind knowing she was receiving exceptional care. The staff’s professionalism and dedication were evident in everything they did. Additionally, I was impressed by the positive work environment, where the staff genuinely seemed to enjoy their roles. During my visits, I encountered many happy and engaged employees, which speaks to the facility’s positive atmosphere. The facility also offers activities that keep patients' minds and bodies active, tailored to each individual's abilities and preferences. Often, when I called, she couldn't talk then because she was occupied and engaged. As I was unable to be the primary caregiver due to living out of state, I am incredibly grateful for the outstanding care my mother received at Friends House. I wholeheartedly recommend this facility for anyone seeking high-quality rehabilitation care.
