**due to being limited in how much I can post. All information is not provided.* My mother was at this facility for rehab. My mother would tell my aunt and I that she would use her call light for “help” and no one would respond for hours…or may not respond at all. She would press the call light frequently and no change. My aunt had the maintenance man to check to make sure the call button was correctly functioning. It was determined that it was. My mother called my aunt one night because she was in pain and no one responded to her call light attempt. My aunt who is elderly drove to the facility around 8:30-9pm to see why mother was not getting attention and assistance. Of course then once she arrived, someone attended to mom. On several other occasions, I’m on the phone with my mother. Mother has pressed the call button and no one responds. I stay on the phone for at least an hour, no response. Mother continues attempts to use call button, no response. In between me staying on phone with mom, I call the facility and ask if mom can have assistance x3 separate occasions. Still no one comes with in a timely fashion (15-30 mins and 30 mins is a stretch to me). No one came for house. (This happened more times that is should have on separate days). On one occasion, after a time of being in pain and calling for assistance, when someone came after hours, my mother was sleep. The person dropped a pill in my mother’s mouth while she was partially awake. Before my mother could wake fully, the person was walking out the door. So mother was unable to describe to me who this was. My mother was offended by this gesture and lack of decent care. I asked for the administrators information. Called the administrator, left a message, told her the issues. Admin. Responded within 1 day, I expressed my concerns, she listened, and stated these things shouldn’t be happening and she will put some things in place. I expressed that I didn’t think the facility was for to care for my mom and she needs to be elsewhere. New days are approaching, for a very short spell, responsiveness increased. Within this time, admin. Called and asked if things were better and I said “yes” . However with in 4 days the old patterns arise again. Non responsive to call light. For hours. I am on the phone with my mother as she is pressing the call button and no response for the duration of the phone call. Then, one night, my mother was in so much pain, felt nauseous, and short of breath. She kept pressing the light, no response. She herself called 911 to the facility to get help. This was around 9 -10 pm . And to know, that no one from the facility called me to let me know my mother went to the hospital. I found out my mother was at the hospital because I am logged into my mother’s MyOschner portal and I received a notification. The notification detailed notes of Care. I was asleep and woke up at 2am to potty. That’s when I saw the notification. I called my mom. She sounded ill, short of breath. I texted the admin at 2 something AM, And told her the situation and expressed deep concerns. She responded via text that day/morning. She later called that evening. My mother is no longer at this facility nor any facility. Although she should be. Due to the lack of care given at Highland, she has developed a fear of going into any facility for rehab. Almost like PTSD or a trauma based fear. This is very unfortunate b/c she so deeply needs intense rehab from a fall. Mother stated during her time at highland “people don’t deserve to be treated like this” “nobody should be treated like this “these people don’t care.” A positive: the admin appeared to be a nice lady who cared. However I think the problem is way bigger than her and what she is able to actually do. Negatives: not all staff, but some didn’t appear to care at all, handling by CNAs to their pts. Was subpar and lacked care as reported by my mother. She was handled roughly when changed or clean-up. Call lights not answered-Lack of basic care and responsiveness as to needs.

I would give this place an absolute ZERO if possible. Completely disgusting as soon as you walk in. Came to visit family and her room had dried food that was there over 2 days (saw it on the previous days from feeding tube), set in the hall and watch 4 call lights remain on while staff sitting at nursing station on phones. No one came and I timed it over 35 minutes. The salon has trash over flowing and full of filth. Family ended up in ICU due to seizures from high fever and no one changed dressings or catheter. Do not send family here for any reason

If I could give 0 stars I would. This place is deplorable. They tell you something and then never show up. We are here for occupational and physical therapy. It’s a freaking joke. Nurses are nice enough but….. I’ll just leave that here. Would not recommend this place for rehabilitation. You’d be better off doing it at home on your own.
