My mother was taken there after a hospital stay with the plan to rehabilitate and come home a few weeks later. I was unable to meet her there upon arrival because I have a newborn and timing did not work. We talk many times throughout the day so I was aware of everything going on. When she arrived she said it felt like they put her in a memory care hallway. She arrived just after dinner so they gave her what was left which was a tray of ground meat and some vegetables . No one came to really give her a rundown of what was going on. She had to wait quite a a while to get help to use the restroom and to get a pull up when she first arrived. Her roommate seemed to have dementia and yelled constantly. We weren't so concerned with that as much as her roommate undressing for the night with the door open and staying undressed with the door open on a coed floor. Throughout the night my mom noticed people who were not nurses (she wasn't sure if they were other staff or her roommate's family members) coming in and out of the room. Unfortunately, the next morning my mother started having some breathing problems and was taken back to the hospital. I arrived later that day to grab her things. When I walked in the gentleman had greeted me was very nice. He directed where I should go as I was getting to the elevator a resident was getting off. The resident had left a trail of urine. The elevator had smelled of stale urine as well. When I got off the elevator on the correct floor, there was another puddle of urine probably from the same resident. I walked out to the nurse's desk and he showed me where to grab their things. The hallway was full of residence eating new meal. It was spilled milk and cartons all over the floor. It was hard to pass through the hallways with all of the folks sitting out in it. If there is an emergency, it'd be really hard to maneuver in that situation. I retrieved my mom's items and left. All the staff that I spoke to was nice but maybe there wasn't enough staff? Overall, my concern is with cleanliness and if there's staff to to take care of all of the patient's concerns. My mom was there for recovery. Just from that little bit of time there we could tell the environment was not conducive for a quick and successful recovery.

My mother was admitted to The Grove of Skokie in March, I can’t express enough my heartfelt gratitude for the outstanding care she has received. Thanks to the dedication, compassion, and professionalism of the entire team, her rehabilitation has been incredibly successful. We are truly thankful for the exceptional staff who supported her every step of the way. Their kindness and attention made a real difference—not just in her recovery, but in her overall well-being. We have had zero concerns during her stay, and our family remains deeply appreciative. Choosing The Grove of Skokie was the best decision we made after my mother became seriously ill. It’s been amazing to see her return to her old self again, and we owe that to the incredible team there. I wholeheartedly recommend The Grove of Skokie to anyone looking for quality care and genuine support.

If you want to live a vibrant social life The Grove is not the place for that. Social activites are very limited. One of the best activities is a group that tCharles and Richard lead which is 3 mornings a week for 30 minutes. The only time you go out is for smoking 1 xsa day. Somtimes the patio is open longer if its warm out. The facility is always clean. Housekeeping is excellent with that. The food here is usually awful always over cooked and very small portions. Rarely fresh fruit or vegetables. The staff is O.K. There are only a hndfull of good CNAs. Alex and Andrea are great! Almost nightly the CNA And nurses are sleeping. If youre young and mentally healthy look elsewhere. I've been here 3+ years and leaving soon. You feel like you're in jail with all the restrictions. Margaret Wachter

The staff is horrible, they lie and cover up. The management and nursing are less than 3rd rate. My mother developed bead sores do to their lack of care. Beware of the administrator, the nursing administrator, activities manager, they all lie. If you call they're corporate office and complain, they say they will check into the issue and follow back up with you and they do not. DO NOT TAKE ANYONE THAT YOU CARE ABOUT THERE.
