My Dad Craig Burdo was at Heritage for almost 10 years on Medicaid. He was disabled due to a seizure disorder that caused a loss of brain function. He recently passed. Originally I think he liked it, he liked the nurses, and they liked him. Queenie was his and my favorite. She left a few years ago, around when the building got new owners. I think the new owners have been very ruthless in cutting costs to keep things efficient. My dad had a long decline, and couldn’t feed himself anymore, he was still present though. I refused to put him on hospice when they suggested it because I didn’t think his condition warranted it, not much had changed. They said because he might aspirate, he needs to be on hospice for them to feed him. They stopped feeding him or letting him drink for a week, saying that it was too dangerous for him to eat or drink as he might breath it in. It’s true he had issues with breathing in food but I think he would have died of thirst well before that happened. I fed him myself every day for a week until I signed him back over to hospice, I didn’t want to do it but they coerced me by not feeding him or letting him drink when I wasn’t there. I was the only person feeding him for that whole week. I don’t think he had a ton of time left, but starving my dad until I agreed to sign him back over to hospice is something I’ll never forgive them for. I think the nurses even knew it was wrong, but their bosses made them do it. Like many others that have posted, don’t bring your loved ones here if you have a choice.

I just found out that my cousin was in this place Kimberly Moore and that she was strangled to death by another patient. I would love to know how this is even possible. She was 53 years old and went there for help for dementia how was somebody allowed to strangle her to death

If I could move a very very very dear friend of mine I would. He has deteriated so much, they even took away his phone privileges at one point. I was falsy accused of stealing his things???? Even though it was at his discretion i grab those important items for that they do not be taken. He fell, and was sitting in his own waste (I was informed,I know 100%). This place is a prison.i wouldn't send my own worst enemy here. Broken promises, and constantly lied to. the front desk secretary stalked me for a month, they did nothing but "speak to her".

Potato chips qualify as a vegetable in meals here. Smokers get to go outside 3 times a day, but there's no one regularly available to take the non-smokers out and staff on the floor commonly claims that 'corporate doesn't allow taking non-smokers out with the smokers', inconsistent with what one decent administrator states. (Some of the working crew do take steps to be kind and helpful to inmates.) The physical place is run down, sorely in need of 'little chore' maintenance -- flopping handles, beat up furniture. The floor is kept clean. The place is gray and gloomy, and most patients in the psych ward are drugged into stupor, many having been abandoned (dumped) by their families. What does health look like to Certus Healthcare? The situation is heart-breaking and disgraceful if this is offered as an acceptable way to take care of our elders (or anyone). It has nothing to do with healing -- but then that's the whole drug based for profit medical system we have (bullying all others out).
