My cousin who was 89 was admitted to Annaploitan assisted living four years ago and after two years was moved to memory care. In the assisted living they made sure she ate and if she didn't they brought food to her. The staff knew her by name and interacted with her even the custodian, the manager and the receptionists. The staff encouraged her to do dinner and the various activities. When she declined, they noticed that she would be happier in the memory care unit. Whenever I visited which was often the staff encouraged everyone to be involved in the activities. They treated everyone with loving care and respect. When she declined even farther, it took two staff to get her into a wheelchair and to bathe her. They could have left her in the bed to deteriorate. They increased their care for her even when she neared the end of her life. They made sure she did not stay alone in her room and while they could, they encouraged her to get up. They placed her among the others to at least be a part of social activity even though she was not totally aware. When it was obvious she would leave us soon, they made sure they continued to be in and out of her room, talking to her, singing to her, keeping her clean and doing everything possible to meet her needs and make her comfortable. They held her hand at the very end and talked her into letting go. When I went to retrieve her belongings so many of the staff came to me and we cried together. They said how much they would miss her. Their love and care was exceptional. Living 100 miles away, I knew my cousin was in loving capable hands.
I was very pleased with the care of my cousin,Lauretta. I volunteer for hospice and a retired nurse. I have worked and volunteered in many facilities and this one was the best one do to caring attitude of the staff. They went out of their way especially in the memory care unit
My mom lived at Annapolitan for a year until she passed in February. We were very happy with the care she received. Jim, the Administrator, has been there for 14 years and he takes a lot of pride in his work. Many of his staff members have been with him for a long time including his head nurse, Crystal. She was always very responsive to our questions. Thank you to the entire team at Annapolitan for taking great care of our mom. The Steelers flower arrangement that was sent to the funeral home was something we'll never forget!
We moved our mom here about three weeks ago from a place that was more expensive and not very caring. Annapolitan Assisted Living is a hidden GEM! This place is organized, caring, spectacular! In less than a month our mom is smiling again, out of her room doing activities again, and she is even playing the piano again! The nurses are wonderful and caring. The director is amazing. Most workers have been here for over 7 years, and you can tell they enjoy their jobs. The dining hall is great, and we just love them all! We are so glad that someone told us about this gem of a place, otherwise, they don't advertise and they don't spend extra money doing it because they aren't a corporation. What a lovely place! Thank you!
If I could give this facility a zero or a negative rating I will! After they evaluated my husband for placement into their assisted living building and agreed that he could be well-cared for and that "there was nothing they could not handle", I was told on day 1 that they could not properly provide the right care for him and that I needed to take him back home. This happened after he had been there for over 4 hours, no one was responding to the calls to see him, give him a juice, and to change his diaper (I did it), and after searching all over the facility to find the head of the aids to discuss my husband's needs ( her attitude was of "don't bother me!"). Soon after I spoke with this lady, she and the head of nursing, who had evaluated him, came running to tell me that the facility could not care for my husband. I was shocked, to say the least!! I brought my husband back home on day 3 and decided not to even try to place him anymore as I have heard from others that this is not a rare event - facilities do this! My first clues about how he was going to be treated at the Annapolitan were from the start! I arrived to his room about 2 hours after he was taken there and it was clear that no one had come to see him- - he was flat on his bed, lights off, and was dying of thirst. After emailing the director about this event (no one came to see us off), his response was that my husband should have been placed in memory care (though he does not have dementia). The most welcoming person was the facilities manager, Donald, who kindly helped me moved furniture the week before into his room, and then pack it all back up the day I moved him back to our home. To add insult to injury, the facility sent me a bill for 3 days to be paid upon receipt, dated the day I took my husband to the facility, which arrived the day I brought him home. I paid it immediately because I did not want to even be reminded of this facility anymore! Needleless to say, this experience put a significant amount of stress in my already very stressed life since I have been caring for my husband at home for 2 years. Their lack of compassion for my situation and not being willing to even entertain options were shocking.
