Independence Village of Avon Lake

I spent a couple weeks at this community and enjoyed my time here so much. The residents are so happy, friendly, and are always engaging.The management team is fantastic. They work so well together and you can tell with each and every one of them that they care so deeply about the residents and their families. I will miss being at this community so much but I will be sure to visit again in the future!

My mother has lived here for 15 years. She loves it, feels safe, and is very happy with the quality meals, help of aids to assist her with medication, the variety of activities, and the rewarding friendships she has developed. Thank you ever so much for providing a quality living environment for her to enjoy her final years.

My Family member lives here and there has been multiple mishaps at this place- elevators broken down all the time ( my relative is 89 years old and lives on the 3rd floor) she had to literally crawl up several flights of stairs to even get to her apartment on 7/7/2025 with a STNA. This is not a good thing for older people who have trouble walking… elevators need to be serviced frequently and this needs to get fixed ASAP. Because crawling up 3 flights of steps with a STNA is NOT SAFE. ALSO Fire alarms going off 24/7 at all hours of the night- she is told she has to stay put until she gets rescued. My relative pays LOTS of money to live at this place…Things like this should not be happening… where is the tenants money going to? Their rent needs to be going towards fixing this place and making sure that our elders are living in a safe environment… This is not acceptable.

My mother has been in assisted living for several years now. Her apartment is very nice with a bedroom, bath, living room, and kitchenette with a refrigerator and microwave. Big enough to meet her needs but not too big. Housecleaning does a great job keeping it clean and the care givers are friendly, compassionate, and meet her needs which are growing greater as she ages.

My mother-in-law has been in the Independent Living community for 2 1/2 years. It was unsettling for her to move out of her home after 55 years; however, the staff at Independence Village really went out of their way to help with the adjustment. They were very proactive about helping her make new friends and tried different arrangements to ensure this. They even made sure she was able to navigate to her apartment by "hanging back" and helping if needed. The aides are so personable; you can tell that they "don't just hire anybody"; these aides are carefully chosen for their love for seniors. And they learn about their residents so they can meet specific needs. The chef is phenomenal! He and his staff prepare exceptional meals and provide beautiful and tasty treats for special activities. Honestly, it's like they are cooking for royalty...and that's how the residents are treated! Even the younger servers are sweet. The activities they do are so fun and creative. They plan so many outings and adventures. Honestly, my mother-in-law went more places in one summer than I have gone in 3 years! She even went kayaking (with her aide doing all the rowing)! The front desk staff is always friendly and helpful, as well as all of the administrative team, which, for the most part, have been there since she arrived. You don't see the turnover here that you see in other places, and that includes the aides as well. She really enjoys being at Independence Village and always says what a nice place it is. When we dropped her off after church last Sunday, she said, "Home again, home again..." Brought a smile to both of us.
