Making the decision to transition my father from my personal care into assisted living and memory care was one of the most difficult choices our family has faced. I utilized the service "A Place for Mom" to efficiently assess his care needs and budget, which streamlined the initial search. Brookdale was the first facility to reach out, and the positive experience began immediately with my meeting with Melissa Sills. Melissa provided unparalleled caring, understanding, and professional support, guiding my family through this emotionally tough process with immense grace. Shortly after, meeting Nurse Sherri solidified my decision. This duo demonstrates an extraordinary combination of genuine compassion and professional expertise. Their immediate support made us feel completely secure, leading me to cancel all other scheduled tours. During my father's first month, the standard of life and community has been exceptional. Brookdale actively fosters a vibrant, inclusive environment, evidenced by the wonderful events they host, including a memorable Veterans Day luncheon and a warm, invited Thanksgiving lunch that my father and I enjoyed immensely. The entire staff maintains a consistently upbeat and welcoming demeanor; they are always smiling and greeting residents and guests, indicating a high level of job satisfaction and commitment to their roles. All residents I have observed, in both the assisted living and memory care sections, appear clean, well-cared for, and, most importantly, happy. While my father is still adjusting, the staff has been proactive in supporting both him and our family through this period. I have immense peace of mind knowing he is in a safer, more controlled environment, receiving skilled medical attention from such a loving and capable team. I wholeheartedly and confidently recommend Brookdale. For anyone navigating the indescribably difficult process of selecting care for a loved one, trust your initial gut feeling. Brookdale stepped up, provided immediate leadership, and offered the comprehensive support my family and I desperately needed during this monumental transition.
My father just moved into Clarebridge, the Memory Care portion of Brookdale West Ashley. Melissa (Sales and Marketing), Michelle (Sales Assistant) and Wilson (Executive Director) were all wonderful and very inviting. The Caregivers all seemed compassionate and understanding of my father's need and transition. It took 5 years, but because of Melissa's diligence and follow up, we were able to get him there. Looking forward to a continued good experience!!!!
The support of the staff and their caring attitudes are so amazing! We are very happy with her choice to call Brookdale West Ashley home!
Always viewed any facility like Brookdale as scary place and not a place I would want to be or send a family member. However, Brookdale has forever changed my mind. I not only feel comfortable with the idea of any of my family members being a resident, I myself would feel very comfortable being there, if the necessity was that. I am grateful 🙏 for all you do. Thanks
I feel sad and sorry that you, another family is in search of a facility and care team for your family member to call home and family. Our country lacks so much support and respect for our elder population and their families. This is the most difficult journey for myself and my family. While I believe Brookdale is not the worst, I believe it could be so much better. I have seen it better. Yes, I may have very high standards. And no I do not have limitless funds. And maybe there was not any planning by my mother to make this any easier on her or me. Yet, could there be better? Do we have to settle? I don't believe Brookdale was honest with me when I was at my most vulnerable, looking for a home for my mother. I feel somewhat betrayed and cheated. But, that is now in the past. I do understand the staffing issues/shortages/retention issues, I believe they may be the same everywhere. More staff, better pay, more incentives,....in the ideal world that could change everything. But, reality is what it is and that does not make it any easier for me, the family. The one that knows who my mother once was, knows how she deserves so much more. I will always strive and hope I can do better, do more, til there is no longer a reason to try or to hope. I hope all at Brookdale caring for the residents can say the same, maybe even just most days. Good luck in your journey. As my mother said at my last visit, "we can only do the best we can".
