Reviews
I really had high hopes for Arden Courts based on the reviews and after meeting the staff however my experience quickly came crashing down. I brought my husband to Arden courts after having tried couple of other memory care facilities with negative experiences. I might have tried Arden Courts sooner but the lack of private showers and dilapidated looking interior kept me away. The half baths are tiny making it hard to have another person assist a dementia patient. Anywhere you turn you bump into a wall. The sink counter is very low making it hard for anyone taller that 5’5” to utilize it at all. The neighborhood living areas are uninviting. Chair rails and baseboards are all nicked and scratched. I heard from someone that what Arden Courts lacks in appearance it makes it up in residence care. Not true. I understand that there is an undetermined adjustment period when anyone with dementia enters new surroundings however it should not mean that personal hygiene and care is neglected. My husband stayed at this facility approximately three weeks before I had to bring him back home. I visited my husband everyday around lunch time. I first entered his room and discovered that his toothbrush was always untouched and on only one or two occasions I found that he had been shaved. I performed all these personal hygiene tasks with him. With the exception of one shower, I showered him. I felt like going to work everyday and paying the staff to do hardly nothing. The Director of Nursing, while kind and accessible, kept saying to me “ don’t do those things, let the staff do it”, but the staffs response to everything was that my husband refused everything. What was I supposed to do? Leave him dirty and smelly for who knows how long. I brought a travel neck pillow for him in case he fell asleep in a chair with his head hanging down and the staff insisted that I had requested him to have the pillow around his neck at all times, day and night. I caught him walking it around his neck, eating with it around his neck and just sitting around with it around his neck. Two caregiver even debated that I had demanded he wears the neck pillow at night in bed. I try to correct this absurd misunderstanding without any luck. Even on his last day after I decided it was time to end the misery and bring him home I came to the facility only to find him awake with the pillow around his neck backwards so that he couldn’t unsnap it and remove it on his own. I asked the caregivers why he had the pillow around his neck and the response again was I had requested it. My husband developed two infections at the facility within three weeks, one landing him at the ER. He was prescribed cough medicine and one nurse was totally unaware of this and told me it hadn’t been ordered yet by the doctor. I knew he had already started on the medication. Last drop was when I arrived at the facility before lunch time and found my husband sitting alone in the dining area facing a wall with a fidget toy in front of him. I thought he had been seated there for lunch but came to find out that he had sat there since breakfast. No one had assisted him up after breakfast and moved him. He had sat there most likely 2-3 hours staring at a wall with feces in his diaper. When I brought my husband home he was covered in feces all over his private areas. I observed other incidents that raised my concern relating to the care of other residents. One resident was seated to have lunch with wet pants all the way from his waist to the back of his knees. Some caregivers were napping during their shift and one specifically I observed responding to a resident needs with such lack of compassion. Even thought the Director of Nursing appeared to listen to my concerns no change ever took place. It is like she just kept that information to herself and never disseminated information to her staff. I could not leave my husband there after what happened and what I saw. I hope this place invests some of the money they harvest from the families and spend some of it to update the resident areas and training.
We were very nervous and worried about moving our dad into any kind of facility but Arden in Elk Grove helped tremendously with the transition and held our hand through the whole process. He seems happy there. We are so thankful for the kindness of the staff and the independence he still has.

I recently had the pleasure of touring Arden Courts Memory Care Center, and I was thoroughly impressed. Debbie guided us through the facility, and her warmth and knowledge made the experience truly wonderful. The community itself is beautiful, with a particular highlight being the outdoor garden—it’s a serene and inviting space for residents to enjoy. Their activities schedule is thoughtfully crafted to engage and stimulate patients, offering a variety of programs that cater to different interests and abilities. From arts and crafts to music therapy and physical exercise, there is always something to keep the residents active and engaged. Overall, I was very impressed with Arden Courts and would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a memory care facility for their loved one.
