About

Richman Gardens

Richman Gardens is a licensed residential care elderly located in Fullerton, California. Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) provide non-medical care and supervision in a homelike setting for people 60 years and older who are unable to live independently.

Richman Gardens has a licensed capacity of 26 residents. Services include assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and medication management. RCFEs also provide meals, housekeeping, laundry, social activities, and 24-hour supervision. Many offer specialized care for residents with memory impairment.

Who We Serve: RCFEs serve older adults who need assistance with daily activities but do not require 24-hour skilled nursing care. Residents may include those with early to mid-stage dementia, mobility limitations, or chronic health conditions.

Licensing: RCFEs in California are typically licensed by the Community Care Licensing Division of the California Department of Social Services under Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations.

Payment Options: In California, Medicaid may help pay for assisted living through the Assisted Living Waiver (ALW). Eligibility is based on both financial and functional criteria. Contact California Department of Health Care Services or visit https://www.dhcs.ca.gov/services/ltc/Pages/AssistedLivingWaiver.aspx to learn about eligibility requirements and how to apply. Wait lists are common for waiver programs, so applying early is recommended.

Families researching assisted living options should verify the facility's current license status, review any inspection reports, and schedule a visit to assess whether the environment and services meet their loved one's needs. You can verify this facility's license and view inspection reports at California's facility search. For more information about assisted living regulations in California, visit California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division.

Licensing requirements and regulations may change. We recommend verifying current requirements directly with your state's licensing agency.

My in-laws have been residents for approximately 2-3 years, and I can not imagine a better place for them to live. The grounds are beautiful, well maintained, and safe and feel more like a park-like setting than a memory care facility. The staff is INCREDIBLE! Compassionate, empathic, trustworthy, approachable, and respectful are just a few words to describe the Richman Gardens' family. They have treated my in-laws beautifully and have provided a true home for this time in their lives. Note, my in-laws have lived in other facilities and there is absolutely no comparison to the level of service they have been provided by Richman Gardens. With utmost respect and appreciation, we love the staff of Richman Gardens.

We could not have been more pleased with the care my mother-in-law received these past three months at Richman Gardens. With her Alzheimer's, Mom had been confused for several years but did OK under her husband's care at home. However, the day she began to "wander," we knew we had to do something quickly, and the Richman director did everything needed to help us make a speedy and smooth transition to Mom's new living arrangements. It was a wonderful comfort that she knew just what was needed when we did not, including assuring us that a shared room would bother neither Mom nor her roommate, and it didn't. The room was sparsely furnished but adequate, and everything spotlessly clean and fresh-smelling whenever we visited. They made a point of getting Mom up and showered, dressed, and out with the others where she could be observed and also enjoy companionship; though their conversations didn't always make sense, she and one other lady resident enjoyed chatting and holding hands. The nurse conscientiously kept us informed as to changes in appetite, behavior or health, prescriptions needing renewal, and so on. The rest of the staff, from top to bottom, were invariably kind, friendly, and cheerful; we came to realize that they were ministering to us as much as to Mom, and we felt very good about entrusting her to their care. I might also add that the food in the dining room always smelled delicious! When right after her 95th birthday Mom began a sudden and steady decline, refusing food and water, the Richman staff knew just how to expedite hospice services and make us feel welcome and comfortable as we waited these past three days for the end to come. We would not hesitate to recommend Richman Gardens to any family or friends with similar needs.

This community is unique in itself. They take care of their residents as if they are part of a family. Not just their 24/7 care and supervision, they provide much love and compassion. Their staff makes residents families feel their loved ones are safe, healthy and loved; definitely feel at home. This home is a great asset to the senior community.

I love Richman Gardens! My parents had been there for several years after being treated poorly at Sunrise Senior living! Every day they packed up and asked us to get them out! We moved them into Richman Gardens and they have never packed up again! Everyone is so kind to them and I love the fact that they can go out to the beautiful grounds freely and visit with company or just hang out with the other residents. My mother passed away last year and my Dad still stays in the same apt. He has developed dementia now also and everyone is so good with redirecting him when he is confused. I live in Louisiana and am so comforted that my Dad is so happy there. He is always treated with respect, patience and kindness.

I have to admit that at first I was a bit negative about this place. It wasn’t what I imagined when I think of memory facilities but it probably was the stress of needing to put a family member in a place with 24/7 assistance. It just seemed unfair to the person and I was not happy, but I eventually came to realize that it’s not supposed to feel like a “facility”. After all, who wants to live in a facility? It sounds like cold linoleum floors, bright halogen lights, and sterile medical equipment. This couldn’t be further from the truth, though there are certainly trained medical staff around. The staff are so friendly and supportive. It seems like I can ask a question to any person there and they know how my family member is doing, what’s they’ve been doing, and even little quirks. It’s heartwarming and makes us feel infinitely better with her being here. It’s sad to put someone in a “facility” but there’s at least hope.
