About

Briar Glen Alzheimer’s Special Care Center

Briar Glen Alzheimer’s Special Care Center is a licensed congregate specialty care assisted living facility located in Hoover, Alabama, specializing in memory care services for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. In Alabama, residential care facilities are typically regulated by the Alabama Department of Public Health, Bureau of Health Provider Standards.

Briar Glen Alzheimer’s Special Care Center has a licensed capacity of 90 residents. Memory care communities provide specialized programming and a secure environment designed to support residents with cognitive impairment. Staff receive training in dementia care techniques, and the physical environment is designed to reduce confusion and promote safety.

When evaluating memory care options, families should consider: staff training and certifications in dementia care, staff-to-resident ratios, security features to prevent wandering, activity programming designed for cognitive engagement, and the facility's approach to managing behavioral symptoms.

Payment Options: In Alabama, Medicaid may help pay for residential care services through the Elderly and Disabled Waiver. Eligibility is based on both financial and functional criteria. Contact Alabama Medicaid Agency or visit https://medicaid.alabama.gov/ to learn about eligibility requirements and how to apply. Wait lists are common for waiver programs, so applying early is recommended.

Families researching congregate specialty care assisted living facility options should verify the facility's current license status, review any inspection reports, and schedule a visit to assess whether the environment and services meet their loved one's needs. For more information about residential care regulations in Alabama, visit Alabama Department of Public Health, Bureau of Health Provider Standards.

Licensing requirements and regulations may change. We recommend verifying current requirements directly with your state's licensing agency.

In addition to my original review below- I have read some of the negative reviews and I must disagree with most of the complaints. I know there are always exceptions, but in my husband's case, the staff and nurses as a whole were caring and attentive. Anyone who is reading the reviews and sincerely looking for the right place, please visit Briar Glen and see for yourself. That's what I did and I'm so glad I did. My husband was happy the short time he was there. Original review- This facility was truly a God-send for me and my family. My husband was only 61 years old and suffered from Early Onset Alzheimer's. He was physically strong with no other health issues. I questioned myself for months about the timing of moving him to a special care center. The love and care he received at Briar Glen was above and beyond what I thought was possible at a "facility." The friendships he made with the staff and other residents helped me as much as it did him. I, too, consider many of these precious people my friends now and we try to stay in touch regularly. From my sons & daughters-in-law & grandchildren, to my sister & brother-in-law & my husband's best friend, to our pastor- Everyone who visited and came in contact with the nurses and staff at Briar Glen commented on the love and care they witnessed for my husband and they felt it themselves. In my heart and soul I know without a doubt that God placed us right where we needed to be. I can never thank them enough!!

Briar Glen is so caring with my mom. I absolutely love they take great care of her. Everyone is so friendly and I feel like my mom is secure and happy. Thank you to everyone who makes Briar Glen a happy place.

My husband has been at this facility for almost two years now. Recently, he was hospitalized and had to be away for a while. Instead of asking to go home, he asked to go back to Briar Glen. This tells me he now thinks of Briar Glen as home. From administration to housekeeping and all in between, this facility is top-notch, in my opinion. The staff and administrators treat their residents and the families of the residents like one of their own. I know my husband is in good hands, which is a blessing to my family and me.

Since I have been in Briar Glen I have to say that this is the worst place ever I have seen. From the front door young lady to the people that supposed be manager / nurses are very rude. I never been in a business where people don’t greet you and supposedly be someone in charge only to look at you like you are stupid. The care of the residents is very very poor and talk to them like they are kids / animals and you have one caregiver/ supposed to be like a lead caregiver now she is the one that really talks to them nasty like a dog and don’t care if we the family hears her or not .This place needs a whole new staff from the front door down to the office and some of the nurses. Are state would be in very soon and I will be calling cooperation cause they can’t no that they business is been handled like this. With them fake reviews that’s on here. Only thing I can say is they do have a hand full of caregivers that care about the residents and take care of them very well but other than that this place needs to be closed down . And by the way I had someone living there a couple months ago now they have moved out and we are very pleased to where we put him

Moved my grandfather here from Danberry (do not recommend) as his dementia worsened. The staff at Briar Glen was phenomenal! Top notch care, people who truly loved their jobs and the people they cared for, kind and knowledgeable about memory care. My grandfather was bathed, shaven, clothes changed, and well fed. Our family is so appreciative of the angels at Briar Glen and we tell everyone about them! Cannot recommend enough!
