If there was a star less than 1 I would choose it. I could go on a rant and list all of the issues we have had with Vitalia since my mom went into the assisted living side of Vitalia but I would most likely run out of available space. Since Vitalia Mentor was sold to another corporate entity last year the emphasis has been cutting costs at the mercy of the residents. Most times there is only one nurse to cover the needs of residents on three floors - one of them being memory care. Response times suffer miserably. My mom fell out of her bed one night and even after pressing the call button many times it took over 30 minutes for response. The incident should have been caught with their cameras - but for some reason there was a “glitch” which needed to be addressed. We have met with management literally dozens of times. Last week, however, was the last straw. My mom was in afib and in a very confused state. EMS was called (after we notified the nurse on call there was a problem). My mom spent 2 days in the hospital during which time all attempts to reach Kim or mark by either phone and email went without any response. I am assuming any glowing reviews left were from independent living residents. I would never recommend this facility to anyone!!!
This facility looks great on paper and is physically pretty. It ends there. This company is very deceiving. If you are in independent living, you can at least make your own food and will not need to rely on staff that don't show up when called. Don't get excited about the 24 hr bistro...it rarely has anything in it or if on the assisted living side, it has nothing in it. They sold our mother on the ability to move into the "state of the art" assisted living rooms if needed. They have sensors to detect falls, cameras in rooms and staff that can "quickly" locate where you are when you call, through GPS on the cell they carry. The reality is... The expensive cameras and sensors do nothing when you fall. Staff typically take 20-40 minutes to respond when called. Our mother fell and laid on the floor with no response. The room is not accessible if you are in a wheelchair...You can not get in and out of bed or in and out of your door/room, without help. The bathroom has a pull cord for emergencies....but it's across the room and unreachable from toilet or shower. I guess it doesn't really matter though, since they won't respond anyway....Oh and the shower was designed so the water runs out of the shower, away form the drain, onto the bathroom floor. Great for people who are fall risks. Plan on getting "Nickel and Dimed"for services you don't receive. The bill changes each month and family members need to watch it closely. Don't count on administrators to help either. They typically do not respond to calls or emails. When we finally do reach them they give "lip service" about being in transition and working to make things better. Nothing has changed. They are understaffed and should be investigated regarding the number of patients to staff that they actually have each day. It's very sad that we can't count on them for even minimal care. Don't waste your money here. The saddest thing is..that this is typical senior care.
Highly recommend Vitalia. From the start with their wonderful marketing duo, to the team of directors they have assembled, to the quality of interior and exterior finishes, it was worth the wait for opening this week! The staff have treated my mom like she is their own family and it already feels like the definition of community.
Great place to live! My parents have been there for a few months now (independent living) and they are settled in and really enjoying it. The staff is incredible and the accommodations are very very nice. The Dining room is open from 7 in the morning until 7 in the evening and it has become the perfect place for my parents to enjoy meeting other residents and socialize. BONUS… my wife and I live out of state and while we were there visiting my parents, we were able to stay at Vitalia for an extremely reasonable nightly price. Nicer than any hotel we’ve ever stayed at, and we were able to be right down the hall from my parents. Again, I can’t mention enough how much we enjoyed meeting all the staff really really nice people.
My parents have been in Vitalia of Mentor since April. Once they were there for a couple weeks, we found out Jess the head nurse was leaving, we thought she would be our go to. That was disappointing. Then another point person for us was Greg , only to find out he was leaving. There was definitely concern there. However our worry did not last long as once Erin was assigned as the new point person. Every concern we have has been addressed immediately. Not only addressed , but with the utmost understanding and compassion. I have always felt heard. Erin has been like a counselor for this difficult time of having our parents no longer living in their home that they love. Erin has always treated our parents with dignity and compassion. She always has a cute story or two to tell us, while at the same time being very transparent with issues that might arise. I take comfort knowing Erin is there!
