Sunrise Assisted Living of Old Tappan

We just moved a family member into Sunrise of Old Tappan, and could not be happier with how things have gone so far. Anna is phenomenal with handling the admissions process, and every staff member we've met has been friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend this community.

My father spent just over 3 years living at Sunrise in Old Tappan and since he passed just over a month ago I’ve had some time to reflect. My brothers and I didn’t see the warning signs and were taken by surprise with our Dad’s sudden cognitive decline (he hid it well). Looking back we were very fortunate to have found a place that was in the same town he lived in for 50 years and was staffed with people who truly cared for him. When you entered you were warmly greeted by Kathy (retired), Carolyn, Chris along with others. While that was nice for us, our concern was making sure our Dad was happy and stayed active. That leads me to Donna Ahern. We are forever grateful to Donna who was the entertainment coordinator at Sunrise Old Tappan for a majority of our Dad’s time there. It was a big change for him and she made it seamless. She figured out what his interests were and worked them into the daily activities like she did for all the residents. It always amazed me when I would stop in for a visit and see a room full of the residents smiling, laughing and having a great time. Donna moved to a different Sunrise location (lucky them!) in the area about a year ago, but before she left she made sure OT was in capable hands. While there were many ups during my father’s time at Sunrise OT, there were a few downs but you’re going to encounter that anywhere. If your loved one is fortunate enough to be there long enough, you are going to deal with change in staff, appearance of the facilities etc.

The people who work in Memory Care are amazing. Every single one of them. Iliana the manager is an angel. A special call out to Donna who was the recreation counselor there and has since moved to another Sunrise location. She was a Godsend. She treats every person with the respect they deserve.

The entire staff at Old Tappan is incredible. They are professional and efficient, yet kind and compassionate. My aunt‘s move-in and transition went smoothly, and she indicated that the staff is very attentive and responds quickly to any question or issue she might have. Based upon this first month — which is often the toughest time — the family is sure she will enjoy many years there. Thank you to her care team and the management team! We are happy to see that she is fully engaged and truly enjoying senior LIVING!

Sunrise of Old Tappan is absolutely amazing. As a licensed nursing home administrator and licensed social worker, I have worked with many assisted living facilities over the years. My client, Anita went to Sunrise needing the structured environment of an assisted living and assistance to help to care for her needs. The staff at Sunrise went above and beyond to make sure that Anita received exceptional care. They were sensitive to her needs, and encouraged her to be as independent as possible. As Anita’s care manager, they were communicative to me and I truly felt part of the team. A year later, with the support and care that was provided to Anita, she was able to go to transfer to an independent care facility. We know that without the amazing care that Anita received, this improvement would not have happened. A special shout out to Megan in admissions, who made the move in process seamless and went above and beyond throughout Anita’s stay. I recommend Sunrise of Old Tappan to anyone in search of an assisted living facility for their loved ones.
