Who We Serve: RCFEs serve older adults who need assistance with daily activities but do not require 24-hour skilled nursing care. Residents may include those with early to mid-stage dementia, mobility limitations, or chronic health conditions.
Licensing: RCFEs in California are typically licensed by the Community Care Licensing Division of the California Department of Social Services under Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations.
Payment Options: In California, Medicaid may help pay for assisted living through the Assisted Living Waiver (ALW). Eligibility is based on both financial and functional criteria. Contact California Department of Health Care Services or visit https://www.dhcs.ca.gov/services/ltc/Pages/AssistedLivingWaiver.aspx to learn about eligibility requirements and how to apply. Wait lists are common for waiver programs, so applying early is recommended.
Families researching assisted living options should verify the facility's current license status, review any inspection reports, and schedule a visit to assess whether the environment and services meet their loved one's needs. You can verify this facility's license and view inspection reports at California's facility search. For more information about assisted living regulations in California, visit California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division.
Licensing requirements and regulations may change. We recommend verifying current requirements directly with your state's licensing agency.

Thanks to American River Care Home, my Mother-in-Law is living her best life. We had to find a home due to her dementia, and were referred here due to her being Japanese. This home best fit her needs and lifestyle to make her feel most comfortable. They speak Japanese as well, which elevated our experience and made Mom fit right in. The staff is very attentive, caring, and knowledgeable, as well as being communicative. We are able to visit anytime and so appreciate the care she is receiving!!
Mom has been at ARCH for the last year. The Harue, Nori and care staff have all been very kind and caring. Since the food is more to mom's Japanese-palette she has even gained weight and enjoys talking with the staff. It's been a great weight lifted from my shoulders knowing that mom is in good hands.
A few years ago, I was very fortunate to have found the American River Care Home at 2801 Tioga Way, for my mother, who is now almost 90 years old. Harue, her dad Nori, and their staff are the best of the best!! They love and care for each resident as if they were their own parents and their health and happiness are top priorities. I cannot say enough about how hard and selflessly Harue, Nori and the staff have worked and keep working, during these hard COVID times. They are conscientious about keeping minds and bodies active. They play games, have exercise time, music time, celebrate birthdays and take them on outdoor field trips to the park, when they can. Family is always welcome and treated like family. Harue and her father speak fluent Japanese, so that is an added bonus, as my mom and several of the residents are Japanese. The food they serve is fabulous and healthy at the same time, and the atmosphere is warm and cozy. It is always a pleasure to be able to visit my mom again, especially seeing her so happy, and I enjoy my time there. I rest easy knowing that my mom is in good hands and I would recommend this care home 1000%.
We were looking for a care home for our mother and found American River Care Home that catered primarily to the Japanese with a tag line of “Life with Miso Soup” and thought that this is too good to be true. Well almost two years later, it has been better than we could have hoped. Nori, Harue and the entire staff are professional, caring and supportive. Mom is in a safe, clean and caring home. Even during this difficult pandemic, Harue and her team were on top of protecting the residents and getting everyone vaccinated as soon as it became available. I am so grateful. We live nearby and can visit Mom and really enjoy visiting her and everyone there. This is truly a very special place.
My aunt was a resident at American River Care Home for 10 years and the care givers and owners were like her extended family. My aunt mostly understood the Japanese language so having a caregiver who spoke Japanese made her feel very comfortable. I highly recommend American River Care home for the quality of care, comfort and support.
