About

Remington Club II

Remington Club II is a licensed residential care elderly located in San Diego, California. Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) provide non-medical care and supervision in a homelike setting for people 60 years and older who are unable to live independently.

Remington Club II has a licensed capacity of 140 residents. Services include assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and medication management. RCFEs also provide meals, housekeeping, laundry, social activities, and 24-hour supervision. Many offer specialized care for residents with memory impairment.

Who We Serve: RCFEs serve older adults who need assistance with daily activities but do not require 24-hour skilled nursing care. Residents may include those with early to mid-stage dementia, mobility limitations, or chronic health conditions.

Licensing: RCFEs in California are typically licensed by the Community Care Licensing Division of the California Department of Social Services under Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations.

Payment Options: In California, Medicaid may help pay for assisted living through the Assisted Living Waiver (ALW). Eligibility is based on both financial and functional criteria. Contact California Department of Health Care Services or visit https://www.dhcs.ca.gov/services/ltc/Pages/AssistedLivingWaiver.aspx to learn about eligibility requirements and how to apply. Wait lists are common for waiver programs, so applying early is recommended.

Families researching assisted living options should verify the facility's current license status, review any inspection reports, and schedule a visit to assess whether the environment and services meet their loved one's needs. You can verify this facility's license and view inspection reports at California's facility search. For more information about assisted living regulations in California, visit California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division.

Licensing requirements and regulations may change. We recommend verifying current requirements directly with your state's licensing agency.

I recently attended the 30th Anniversary event at the Remington Club Healthcare Center as a vendor (photographer). The event was well organized and prepared, with lots of people attending. Everyone from residents, to visitors, to the staff were all smiling and having a good time. And how could you not have a good time, there was lots of food, music, entertainment, games, and even recognition awards from the facility director to the residents. Staff was kept busy answering questions, meeting and greeting folks and just making themselves available to anyone who had a question or needed anything. Even the wait staff were always checking on me to see if there was anything I needed...and they were very busy moving about as quickly as humanly possible ensuring everyone was taken care of. My hat is off to all involved in putting this extravaganza together. I also had the opportunity to visit with the administrative staff and received brief tour of the facility by the lovely and friendly Admissions Coordinator, Pamela Cooper or just "Cooper" as I am told. I also took the time to speak with some of the residents at the event and there was not a single unhappy face or negative comment from them. From what I can gather this is a top notch facility and years down the road, should the need arise, this is where I would be happy to hang my hat and call home as many others have done. It is a warm and friendly facility with an amazing staff who genuinely care about you.

The Remington Club has become an unsafe and inaccessible facility for elderly residents during the renovations. The lack of ventilation has resulted in dust and harmful chemicals floating around in the air, posing a serious health risk to the residents, with management not doing anything about it. In addition, the facility does not have ramps, making it incredibly challenging for the majority of their residents who use canes or wheelchairs to navigate around. This lack of accessibility is unacceptable and shows a lack of concern for the safety and wellbeing of residents. Furthermore, the facility only has one room available in the building for residents to gather and socialize, yet they have to go through the construction to get to that room, which is extremely unsafe. The services and programs have also been significantly diminished as a result of the renovations, which has been going on for months already. When I attempted to address these issues with management, I was met with no response, and during resident meetings, the executive director was dismissive and uncaring towards our concerns. The facility is a health and safety hazard, and the management seems to have no interest in addressing the safety concerns or providing adequate support to their elderly residents. They have unstable pieces of wood that residents in walkers, wheelchairs and canes have to walk over -- it's unstable and it's so inconsiderate for their residents. There is no reparations for what the residents have to go through -- no reduction in rent, no being transferred to cleaner, accessible rooms, no assistance from management. There are even no navigation signs for the residents to figure out and remember how to get back to their rooms or through the buildings. It's cruel and inconsiderate what these residents are having to go through. I am shocked that other reviews have painted this facility in a positive light. The facility was entirely covered in dust and plastic sheets, and the floors were stripped and dirty. Even before renovations, the facility was not kept or run well, and it is clear that they do not care about the safety and health of their residents. I would strongly advise against considering the Remington Club as a place for your loved ones with the current management.

Since the arrival of our new Director of Dining, Bill Capps, the transformation in our dining experience has been nothing short of remarkable. Bill has brought fresh energy, creativity, and an inspiring spirit to the dining program, and the results speak for themselves. The changes to the weekly menus have been incredibly well-received by residents. We’re seeing a wider variety of dishes, improved quality, and an overall elevation in flavor and presentation. From comforting favorites to exciting new options, every meal now feels thoughtfully crafted and truly enjoyable. In addition to the menu enhancements, the dining room itself has seen noticeable improvements. The atmosphere is more welcoming, and mealtimes now feel like a special occasion rather than just part of the routine. Perhaps most importantly, Bill’s positive attitude and uplifting presence have had a meaningful impact on both residents and staff. His enthusiasm is contagious, and it’s clear he genuinely cares about creating an exceptional dining experience for everyone. We are truly fortunate to have someone of Bill’s caliber leading our dining services. His passion, professionalism, and heart are making a real difference every single day.

I feel the staff is very nice. The restaurant staff is very patient. The landscaping is beautiful. The apartments have a good layout . The food especially the soup is very good. I feel it would be helpful to have several of the doors that lead to the eating room be automatic. It is very difficult for someone with a walker to open the heavy doors. There should be more engaging classes that could get people to talk and interact. The management doesn't seem real responsive to requests like higher quality meats that can be chewed easier.

This facility claims to be a “5 Star Senior Living” experience/community. But, it is not. I have seen many issues, but the final straw was the decision by the administration to blatantly ignore the cries of protest from the residents in regards to being forced into one facility that is not theirs to eat at 3x a week. Administration did not consider residents when making this decision and actually rejected the protest from residents to overturn this new policy. This can be considered elder abuse as the many residents deal with locomotor disabilities, resulting in them using wheelchairs or canes. Being elderly, these types of physical changes are a natural process, and it’s truly inappropriate for management to be aware of this and still choose to overlook the issue. Furthermore, claiming to offer transportation via mediocre golf carts is irrelevant, as this would cause a mass delay in the residents receiving their meals in a timely manner and is a serious safety issue. Not to mention, we are now approaching the winter season and you are admittedly forcing senior residents to be exposed to cold, wet weather. Additionally, to have the entirety of both Remington 1&2 in one area is another significant health risk for the spread of COVID-19 and other illnesses. These new changes also include the absence of dinner on ALL Sunday's. When the administrative sales employees pitched their speech about why the Remington Club is so great, they mention the availability meals 3 times daily at the facility that the resident resides in. To now retract this promise means you've misled the residents and their families. The substantial amount of money that is charged is absolutely not worth it. In fact, I personally believe that families should be compensated or the rent should be lowered rather than raised as they are now planning to do. The other issues involve the AWFUL system that this facility operates on. Maintenance requests are rarely answered and are often ignored or "lost." Follow up is rare. One continuously calls only to have to leave voicemails because no one is ever there to answer. A response to the voicemails is nonexistent. The entire system for tracking and responding to maintenance requests is inadequate. I constantly hear residents complain about this pressing matter, with no actual solutions being presented or implemented by management and administration. This brings me to my next point. The management and administration often play this game of "listening and nodding" to the complaints and worries of residents and/or their family members, with nothing ever happening. This has been a constant issue for my family and my dad who has lived here for several months. It's not difficult to find empathetic employees who know how to communicate, as well as organize, strategize, and implement improvements to the system. This is what it takes to be in management and run a successful company, especially if that company's slogan is that its establishment is a "5 Star Living" experience. The other issues that should be addressed immediately include: 1. Many residents have experienced severe bug bites and infestations. Calls and complaints have been ignored. The grounds need appropriate care so bug infestations do not occur. 2. The quality of the food needs improvement. 3. The dining staff leave many tables dirty, are not attentive and are surly. 4. The cleanliness of the facility need much improvement -- hallways are dirty, carpets aren't clean, elevators look a disaster, and spider webs are everywhere! 5. Maid staff are supposed to clean units once per week but don't show up. My father calls multiple times to inquire why no one shows up at his unit on the designated cleaning day and receives NO RESPONSE, as usual. 6. Cleaners often do not carry out their responsibilities and often leave patios untouched. All in all, the staff, operating systems, and overall quality needs much improvement.
