About

Atria Collwood

Atria Collwood is a licensed residential care elderly located in San Diego, California. Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) provide non-medical care and supervision in a homelike setting for people 60 years and older who are unable to live independently.

Atria Collwood has a licensed capacity of 185 residents. Services include assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and medication management. RCFEs also provide meals, housekeeping, laundry, social activities, and 24-hour supervision. Many offer specialized care for residents with memory impairment.

Who We Serve: RCFEs serve older adults who need assistance with daily activities but do not require 24-hour skilled nursing care. Residents may include those with early to mid-stage dementia, mobility limitations, or chronic health conditions.

Licensing: RCFEs in California are typically licensed by the Community Care Licensing Division of the California Department of Social Services under Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations.

Payment Options: In California, Medicaid may help pay for assisted living through the Assisted Living Waiver (ALW). Eligibility is based on both financial and functional criteria. Contact California Department of Health Care Services or visit https://www.dhcs.ca.gov/services/ltc/Pages/AssistedLivingWaiver.aspx to learn about eligibility requirements and how to apply. Wait lists are common for waiver programs, so applying early is recommended.

Families researching assisted living options should verify the facility's current license status, review any inspection reports, and schedule a visit to assess whether the environment and services meet their loved one's needs. You can verify this facility's license and view inspection reports at California's facility search. For more information about assisted living regulations in California, visit California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division.

Licensing requirements and regulations may change. We recommend verifying current requirements directly with your state's licensing agency.

We had such a lovely time at Atria Collwood! Our Balloon Artist from Magical Memories Entertainment was part of a special event there and the whole experience was really great. The space is warm and welcoming, and the residents were an absolute joy to entertain. The staff at Atria were amazing, super organized, friendly, and genuinely caring. They helped us get everything set up and were right there making sure the residents were engaged and having a good time. You can tell they really love what they do and work hard to make each event special. What really stood out to us was how well the team helped create a fun, festive vibe. Their attention to detail and positive energy made it easy for us to do our job and bring smiles to everyone. It felt more like a family gathering than a formal event, and we love that. Can’t wait to come back!

This was one of the places I strongly considered, but when I stopped by recently, I was shocked. It was a sad site. I remember it being lush and private community, but someone in the management made a decision to chop all beautiful mature trees and turn it into a parking lot with a sad stump of a tree in the middle. It destroyed the privacy and exposing residents to the noise and a view of a busy street. Who in their right mind would cut down multiple healthy 40-year-old pines that did not pose any threat or harm as they were far away from any buildings or wires?! Why?! These trees could have lived for 500 years, but someone robbed the community of their evergreen beauty and so many other benefits that mature trees provide. If the management makes such terrible and careless decisions with no appreciation for natural beauty or life how could I ever trust them to care for someone I love. I turned around and left…completely disappointed.

When my 90+ year old mom suddenly broke her hip, it became obvious that she could not live on her own any longer and before she left the skilled nursing facility that she was getting rehab at after hip repair surgery, I had to find an assisted living facility quickly. I toured multiple facilities and the one that felt like the perfect fit was Atria Collwood and after 3 years, I know that I made the right choice. The facility is warm and inviting, up-to-date, cozy and fresh. My mom loves it there and I have peace of mind that she is getting the proper amount attention from the wonderful and attentive staff. And of course, the variety of activities and culinary delights are also terrific! Thank you Atria Collwood for taking great care of my amazing mom!

About 18 months ago, my then 94-year old father took a fall, and it was determined that an assisted living home would be the best place for him to move into. He always said he was going to remain in his own home, no matter what, but he finally agreed that the time had come for him to move someplace else. My sister and I visited a lot of assisted living homes trying to find the perfect place for him, and once we toured Atria Collwood, we immediately knew it was the place for our dad. Every person we have ever encountered has been friendly and helpful. There is a really positive attitude amongst the staff and it shows. We have always been impressed with how clean they keep the facility. And all of his needs are taken care of – meals, cleaning, laundry, etc. Someone is always around and if he has an urgent need for help, they are only a push of a button away. There are different levels of care available, depending on need. They are lucky to have a great director, John Brennen. One of my dad’s favorite things they have started since covid is a weekly happy hour cart that delivers to each individual room. It is a huge relief to us knowing he is in a place that is so caring and kind. Thank you to all the staff at Atria Collwood!
