Alexander Gardens
Alexander Gardens is a licensed residential care elderly located in Santa Barbara, California. Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (RCFE) provide non-medical care and supervision in a homelike setting for people 60 years and older who are unable to live independently.
Alexander Gardens has a licensed capacity of 36 residents. Services include assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and medication management. RCFEs also provide meals, housekeeping, laundry, social activities, and 24-hour supervision. Many offer specialized care for residents with memory impairment.
Who We Serve: RCFEs serve older adults who need assistance with daily activities but do not require 24-hour skilled nursing care. Residents may include those with early to mid-stage dementia, mobility limitations, or chronic health conditions.
Licensing: RCFEs in California are typically licensed by the Community Care Licensing Division of the California Department of Social Services under Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations.
Payment Options: In California, Medicaid may help pay for assisted living through the Assisted Living Waiver (ALW). Eligibility is based on both financial and functional criteria. Contact California Department of Health Care Services or visit https://www.dhcs.ca.gov/services/ltc/Pages/AssistedLivingWaiver.aspx to learn about eligibility requirements and how to apply. Wait lists are common for waiver programs, so applying early is recommended.
Families researching assisted living options should verify the facility's current license status, review any inspection reports, and schedule a visit to assess whether the environment and services meet their loved one's needs. You can verify this facility's license and view inspection reports at California's facility search. For more information about assisted living regulations in California, visit California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division.
Licensing requirements and regulations may change. We recommend verifying current requirements and information directly with your state's licensing agency or regulatory organization. Contact the agency directly to confirm current services, availability, and pricing.

As a senior Move Manager here in Santa Barbara, I was invited to tour the historic Assisted Living community of Alexander Gardens. The buildings are filled with historical charm, character and smiling engaged residents. I was able to see the menu for the week. It looks delicious and nutritious. There is always some engaging activity planned. The gardens are lush and have many magical areas to sit and enjoy the sounds of birds. But I think the thing that makes Alexander Gardens stand out for me is the fact the dedicated staff and caregivers have been working there for years. It is very apparent that they are devoted to each and every resident. I will be recommending Alexander Gardens to all my clients.
What a lovely setting with its 1.5 acres of gardens. Most importantly, the staff is outstanding, many having worked there for years. They are attentive and care! There are plenty of places for residents to sit outside under an umbrella. My husband likes the gentle ramp in back with its sides and railing to hold onto for his twice daily walk. His room is lovely with its real hardwood floor in the 1906 house. I am pleased he is getting such good care in a positive setting.
It was a pleasure to tour your beautiful community with Diane, your Business Development Director. From the moment I arrived, the lush gardens created a sense of calm and serenity, immediately putting me at ease. As we explored the various buildings and viewed several rooms, I was struck by their brightness, cleanliness, and thoughtful touches, truly making them feel like home. It is evident that great care has been taken to cultivate an environment that reflects warmth and dignity, enriching the experience of visitors, families, and residents alike. Thank you for the opportunity to experience such a welcoming and thoughtfully designed community.
Last week, Rachel and I toured Alexander Gardens with one of our clients. The home was warm and welcoming, with nicely appointed rooms. We walked the gardens and viewed a few rooms. Our client loved the feel of the community. After our tour, we sat with Diane Blair at a sunny and warm patio table and had a great cup of coffee, and learned more. Our Client was thrilled to know about Alexander Gardens for her mother! A slice of heaven, close to the mission in Santa Barbara!
I cannot speak highly enough of Alexander Gardens. From the moment my family and I walked through the doors, we were greeted with warmth and kindness. The staff is truly exceptional—warm, attentive, compassionate, and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that my entire family feels at home and well cared for. Thank you, Alexander Gardens, for all that you do.
