Sunrise Retirement Community

I feel very blessed that we have been able to have both parents at Sunrise when we needed more help for them. Sunrise was an answer to prayer for my dad during his final weeks of life. My mother currently resides in the skilled nursing unit for dementia. I live several states away and it is incredibly difficult not being able to be near Mom as she struggles through dementia, but my one solace has been knowing that she is receiving the best care she could get. I have looked at a lot of care facilities both around Sioux City and where I currently live, and without a doubt, Sunrise was the best that I have seen by far. Sunrise is so clean and doesn't smell like a nursing home. It is fully staffed, which is rare to see in nursing homes these days where there are typically shortages and lots of turnover. My husband and I have been impressed on every visit with the friendliness of everyone there - even the cleaning and maintenance staff would call my mom by name and stop and chat with her. And multiple times the staff in Mom's units (esp while she was in assisted living) have gone above and beyond in assisting with her needs - she wasn't just a job for them, they truly cared about her wellbeing. I have been so grateful and touched by the care the staff has shown. I deeply appreciate what a topnotch facility Sunrise is and would recommend it to anyone looking for the best care for their family members.

Our loved one has been a resident at Sunrise for about a month. We are extremely happy with the care she has received. She has commented numerous times that the food is delicious and loves that they have a beauty shop on site! The have so many activities for residents to participate in and she has enjoyed them all. Communication with the administrators and nursing staff is great, and they have been so helpful guiding us as this is our first experience having a loved one in a care community. Also want to make special mention of the transportation team. We have had several doctors appointments and the driver is so nice!

My Aunt was a long time patient at Sunrise and was paying an ungodly amount, near $10,000 per month! She complained about the quality of the food and I saw it and, certainly agreed! Her health care was not very good as she complained of leg pain a lot due to neuropathy and open wounds, and didn't get much for the pain! Her legs were pretty bad! On March 5, she was admitted to a local hospital because of the severity of her legs and open wounds. We inquired about the issue and a treating Nurse stated that my aunt should have been moved to the hospital sometime ago! Another nurse, after being asked if my aunt should be in hospice and the nurse stated that she believed that, that was a good idea! My Aunt passed on Monday, March 18, 2024! Bottom line, the nursing home obviously didn't give my aunt proper care as they should have recognized the severity of the open wounds and sent her to the hospital sooner! They apparently have unqualified personal and dropped the ball!

Sunrise Retirement Community goes Above and Beyond caring for every Resident that lives there. My Mom is on Medicaid and has been in their Dementia skilled Nursing care for the past 4 years. Every staff member cares and treats every resident with love and respect. At SUNRISE, you just don’t live there, you feel like your HOME because your treated like FAMILY. We wouldn’t want her to be anywhere else. Thank You Sunrise Retirement Employees for being our HEROS.
