My family member has been at Brookdale for over 4 years. We all have concerns about our loved ones. If I ever have a concern, I just get in touch with the administrator, Andrew, and he helps me with it. I can't begin to tell you what a comfort that is - to know I can go to someone and my concern will be taken care of. I am very thankful for Brookdale, Smithfield NC, and for all the staff and people there.
Like someone else said, they have a great sales pitch, make you feel at ease, but when you actually move a family member into the memory care, they charge you for every single little thing. They took him to the hospital without a call to anyone letting us know he had pneumonia, the only reason we found out he went was because a nurse from the hospital called days later to check on him. They tried to overcharge a couple of times, luckily we were able to get my 90 year old grandfather out asap. The place he is in now has much better care, cleaner and way better communication. The girl who is in charge of admissions is terrible. She forgets too many important things and terrible communication. Do not recommend this place to anyone.
My mother, Grace Jones, stayed at Brookdale a little over 3 years. We had a very positive experience there. Management and staff were very professional and courteous. The staff who spent time with my mom, treated her with love and compassion. I will forever remember the relationships we had with all of the caretakers. We will miss all of you, but once this virus is over, I plan to visit you all again. Thank you again for your love, support, kindness, and caring. You will never be forgotten!
My mom is a resident in the memory care section. What staff they have I’ve met is awesome. Management is terrible. Short staffed. No activity director to keep residents engaged. More like a babysitting service it seems. Sadly residents are served the same exact meals every day of the week EVERY week. When I asked director Andrew about why meals aren’t switched up he says they are but that’s untrue. He’s sadly clueless and not involved at all as to what meals are served to his residents he’s responsible for. Who wants to eat the same exact meal every day of every week???? I’m sure he doesn’t nor would anyone else. As I said before the staff I’ve met for dayshift is phenomenal and treats the residents wonderful considering how short staffed they are.
The nurses are really friendly and are great people. But whoever is in charge of the budget and whoever is in charge in general should be ashamed. They overcharged us hundreds of dollars for months for some special diet that wasn't even being fed to our family member living there. When we tried to get this "special diet" canceled, it took months before they decided to take it off the bill. Calling corporate was a mess. This place has a total lack of good management and we all left feeling taken advantage of. This place is just like a university: they charge more each year and no one knows for what. Like I said, the nurses there are phenomenal, but the management did nothing to help us. I would recommend going elsewhere if you're looking for an honest place to send your loved ones. I would really recommend going elsewhere.
