Ruth's Choice in Home Care

In, 2007 my life suddenly changed. Overnight I went from being a happy, active senior and business owner to being hospitalized a total of 6 weeks during a four month period and needing around the clock care. I could not bear the thought of going to a nursing home and having to give up my house of 25 years. And how could I leave my precious dogs, Georgy Girl and Josh? While I was too sick to make arrangements for my own care, my wonderful son Harvey, who later became my partner in Ruth's Choice, stepped forward and provided help for me so that I could stay home and think about nothing but getting well. After four months of care in the home with a diagnosis of a rare kidney disease, I was rushed to the hospital with a pulmonary embolism. Although I almost died, another series of test were performed and the doctors found cancer located above my kidney. I went though many months of treatments which were ultimately successful. I am a cancer survivor. After reflection on the months of my long illness, the most important thing that stands out in my mind is the care I received from those special, loving caregivers. It was when I thought about them that I had the idea to start my own home care agency. I wanted to incorporate and implement all of the excellent care I had received and if possible, do even more. As I was reading the book of Ruth in the bible one day, I was moved by Ruth's choice to care for her mother in law, Naomi and how it made a difference in Naomi's life. Ruth's example inspired me even more to have the means of caring for others who need help just as I needed help and Ruth's Choice In-Home Care was born.
