Most of the staff is very friendly. The building is dirty. The furniture and decor is outdated. The entrance is filthy and uninviting and usually cluttered with boxes and garbage. Most of the interior of the building needs painting for sure. The outside needs to be cleaned to. All other nursing homes in the community have beautiful flowers whereas this building has nothing. The fenced in area out back needs updating as well. Overall, the exterior and maintenance of the building is not a reflection of the staff or the care provided, which is what's most important I guess.
Terrible place for elderly sick person. Uncaring NA's left my father uncared for and unwashed. In same clothes for 2 days, wouldn't bring him kleenex when asked for repeatedly. One NA told him to pick up his own legs as they were too heavy for her. Mind you he couldn't as he was too weak. Very degrading experience for him. We finally hired someone to go in and bath him. Last time I came to visit he asked me to help him get adjusted in the wheel chair as he was slipping out and the feet pedals were down, poking his swollen sore legs. He had had the light on for assistance but no one came. I helped him get comfortable but left light on to see how long it would take for them to come check on him. Took another half hour. NA came in said your lights on what do you need? I explained I had already assisted him but wanted to see how long it would take for someone to show up. Told her he was slipping out of his chair and it was over a half hour before they came. NOT satisfactory. On another day I came in head nurse was trying to explain his options by yelling in his face, even though we had purchased a head set with amplifier to speak into. She rudely said to me it was one of HIS option to go home to die, I explained not really as we had moved mom out of house as she was no longer able to care for him and the only heat was a wood stove. Shaver got stolen on 2nd day there too. Only positive there was very nice social worker and nice, patient physical therapists.
While comparing AHS to other nursing homes/rehab center, I now have greater respect for a good quality Home...for those who need a healthy, clean and loving place to live and a respectable rehab center. Looking down the hall, I would see 2 or more therapists going to the individual rooms, to work with their people. I commend Jill, Valerie and Joel being top notch. They are so kind, understandable and professional. We knew we came there to seek help with the goal to go home healthier and safe. We could depend on them to do this job. I totally appreciated everything and found it hard to leave my new found friends. The permanent people were active and you could tell they were loved! They were happy to mingle with rehab people - using covid guidelines. They are awesome!! All the nurses, and aides were professional, kind and dedicated..... day and night. They listened to their patients! They treated a person like you were the most important human ever! I did notice a young lady aide who worked alone many times, spreading herself thin and did so willingly. This is my only regret. We always appreciated her. She did not call in sick or give an excuse when the weather was bad but came to work because of her dedication to her people. Alyssa came into work above and beyond and should get a raise for this. I have never been in a place so neat and clean and smelling good all around. The cleaning people were always on guard for Covid guidelines. Making sure we used a mask. I commend them for being happy and spreading that happiness ....where you hear people laughing all around. The cooks worked hard and most did appreciate their meals. I would find it difficult to deal with individuals likes and dislikes, and special diets. The food was always warm or cold and tasty as they should be. ....They worked with a smile, making sure every person is happy! You are very lucky to have them!!! And then there is Greg!! Very kind man and always fixed something or help with any role there is in the place. He was a hard working person. Another thing I should mention is something you don't see every day at a nursing home, the people in the offices came and interchanged their role, by filling in the help and keep things nice and smooth .......with a smile. I appreciated everyone who worked at this place, Ashland Health Center, and I would give a 10 star rating. I tell people about my experience because I know this place is the best place ever. Thank you!! Linda Butzler

My father is a resident. I am several states away. The entire staff from the business office, admissions, director of nursing and all the healthcare providers are always helpful and informative. I feel he is in a loving, safe and caring environment. I am so thankful.
