September 3, 2025 My sister was placed in Wesleyan Village's Beacon House a few years ago. She appears content, which is important to her family. Several Nursing Homes were considered before she was placed in Wesleyan Village, Elyria. Wesleyan had a couple of huge benefits that other Nursing Homes didn't offer: Residents could keep a pet as long as they could care for it, which was extremely important to my sister, and Wesleyan won't throw you out on the street when your money runs out! The only two complaints I have at this time are; it's really hard to get anyone to answer the phone in that unit and they have a large staff turnover. Biggest complaint is the exorbitant price for care, like all Nursing Homes! That said, Pete & Lisa are the main nurses I've interacted with in Beacon House. They're both great! I'm thankful for the care they give my sister and attention to keeping me updated about her wellbeing! I I will update my post if anything changes.
I have been an “Angel in Disguise” for many years now. My volunteer status has been everything from just visiting the nursing home residents in Memory Care, Assisted living, Independent living, etc. Someone just to say “you are not alone”. I want to emphasize the fact that the health care staff is impeccable. The transportation staff is impeccable. The housekeeping staff is impeccable. The dining is getting better. Sadly the events, the activities, the social aspects are lacking. The nice lady I believe her name is Beth in memory from what I have observed is the sweetest. She is firm yet caring in a very unknown characteristic area. She is quite calming. And so kind. She engages their minds.. it is quite incredible. Now moving on.. sadly the activities are so lackluster… it is sadly a bad day on repeat. Bingo, inclusive clubs, lack of arts and crafts… and from what residents are saying is due to lack of associates for the department. In spring they had this wonderful decor and a tea that just brought me to tears.. the decor was whimsical and everywhere you looked you saw something you had not noticed. The decor was elevated. The skywalk was like walking through a spring rain shower. I also heard that Christmas was a sight to see. I hope to witness it this year. The assisted living coffee hour seemed like a click… if you were in it was wonderful. If not it was awkward. And the associate hosting it was very rude. I believe it was an Angelia, or Amy, something with an “A” she was rude and on her phone and just left. Her attire was atrocious. She looked like a retired bar steward. Offering unsolicited advice, or in some cases medical advice. And then I met a Louisa who introduced herself as the activities director in sweat pants, smelling of liquor and body odor. She sat down and proceeded to eat something out of a brown fast food bag. And was just the worst. In speaking with the one I was visiting. They explained this is daily. Inconsiderate and rude. I attended a trivia with the host being funny and engaging. Even saying he was wrong on a previous trivia event about the Great Lakes. And offered sincere apologies. I was taken back. Never once did I see either of the other two again. Thank goodness. And I must say that they enjoy Jane. The seated exercise is wonderful! They truly enjoy it. And Linda the driver I have heard makes outings so fun… and Mrs. Perez in transportation is exquisite with the residents. Just seems to be that the activities and holiday decor are either a hit or a miss. And finding out they are family. Well that seemed to fit why it was so sad. Who would go against family. Just quite sad with the potential that is there. I do hope that they evaluate and listen to the residents in privacy. Much to be said by staff and residents however it is sad knowing threats are made. And this is just my experience.
It would not allow me to leave a zero rating, so I guess a 1 will have to suffice. BUYER BEWARE!!!! My in-laws made a financial decision to move to Wesleyan Village 8 years ago. I had looked into this type of facility for my mother when she was alive, but thank goodness we did not fall into this financial trap. The independent living has you pay market rate as if you were purchasing the home with the promise that you will be guaranteed place in the care facilty when the time comes. Here are the reasons why anyone considering, $250k upfront for a home should take a minute to read this review. You are renting with the guaranty that you will be allowed to move into the care facility. However, you are paying for the house upfront and all the expenses that go along with it (Real estate taxes, utilities in upkeep) in this case, my inlaws pay monthly dues of $1,600 to cover those expenses. When you move to the care facility or in this case, out of the independent living and in with a family who cannot in good conscience leave you in a depressing, dilapidated and understaffed old folks home, they resell the house to some other elderly mark. Here is the problem with that promise, the time came for my wife of 35 years to move her father into the care facilty so she went for a visit. When she came back she was crying because she could not bring herself to leave her father in the facility because of the conditions and the staffing. Keep in mind, they want $6,000 a month to stay there. It is absolutely disgusting how these types of facilities are allowed to take advantage of the elderly. The independent living is a pleasant and friendly neighborhood, but when you really need them, all they want is the all mighty dollar.
We recently moved our grandmother into Wesleyan Village, and the experience has been exceptional. My grandma is blind in one eye and has very limited vision in the other, so finding a place where she felt comfortable and supported was incredibly important to us. Ashley and Shelley in Sales, were amazing throughout the process. They made everything so smooth and stress free, not just for us but for our grandma as well. Their professionalism and care truly stood out. Since moving in, my grandma has raved about how kind everyone is. She Loves Terri! The nursing staff is so friendly and attentive, Michelle and Pete are always making her feel at ease. The facility offers a variety of activities, including bingo, coffee and donuts, and even outings to local stores. It’s wonderful to know she has so many opportunities to stay engaged. One unique feature we appreciated is the on property apartments available for out-of-town visitors. My sister and I stayed in a comfortable two-bedroom apartment while helping set up our grandma’s studio apartment. It made the transition so much easier for all of us. Wesleyan Village is a warm, welcoming community that we feel very confident in. We’re so grateful our grandma is in such a caring environment. Highly recommend!
At first I was distraught with the idea of placing my mother in assistant living. This was the only place I was interested in after viewing a few others. The administrator and other staff members help make this experience a healthy and bearable transition. My mother has her own "apartment" with her personal items. The accommodations are welcoming in addition to other amenities. I asked my mom daily how do you like staying here? "It's nice." Are the staff being good to you? "Yes they're nice."are you being good? "Of course I am"😊 The nursing and assistant nursing staff are wonderful. They make sure they assist you with whatever you need and answer any questions that you may have. I had to let go of my selfish desires of wanting to be my mother's caregiver. I had the privilege of caring for my mother for 3 years with a progressive diagnosis of Alzheimer's. It is a shocking truth and devastating fact that this diagnosis is quick. She is thriving in her environment (memory care unit), it's safe and she loves sleeping in. The staff take care of making her bed, dressing her and making sure any other needs are met. I want to say thank you again Wesleyan Village ❣️
