My husband has Dementia and he was transferred to Avenue at Macedonia. They have a unit just for Dementia patients. My husband fit right in because he had his own room and felt comfortable with the other patients and staff. The staff has a tough job taking care of the patients because Dementia patients are in their own world. The staff keeps them occupied by playing games, watching TV, playing music, talking to them, etc. Everyone has been so friendly and helpful. My husband needed rehab so that he will be able to walk when he returns home. He is walking now and will probably come home soon. The physical therapists have been working with him for only 5 days and he is able to get up out of his wheelchair and get in and out of the bed. I'm very pleased with the Avenue at Macedonia. However, his clothing was never returned. I had 4 pairs of pants in XL, 1 Nike, 1 Underarmor, and 2 pairs of pajama bottoms. The reason I was given is the laundry was behind. My husband was there over 10 days.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. My grandmother went in for rehabilitation for a broken bone. Everything was “fine” except for the fact that they are clearly understaffed and under qualified. We tried to look past their shortcomings (like not getting her sheets changed after an accident for 3 hours) because she SEEMED to be getting better. After a complete change in her health and mood, I ended up arriving one day after she wasn’t answering her phone to find her slumped over on the toilet alone, black and blue, delirious, unable to speak or function with labored breathing. The light for help was on outside and nobody was coming to help her. She told us later she was there for 40 minutes (which would make sense considering that she would not answer our calls for that amount of time). She was malnourished, had undiagnosed pneumonia, had a UTI that could have turned to a kidney infection if it had gone any longer, she was cyanotic and the emergency doctor told our family she was “close to death”. Since this event she’s gone into hospice and is in a steady decline. Avoid this place at all costs. They accept Medicaid and Medicare and that should say enough (money grabbers). My mother and I are both attorneys and we continue to say “That place will be shut down due to an influx of medical malpractice or negligence suits if they keep it up.” Sure they’re “nice” but their level of care is despicable. Update she died. Thanks Avenue!! Also I want to add - anyone we have encountered since her leaving the Avenue has stated that within the medical community it is well known that this chain of care centers falls far below the acceptable standard.

I came here to volunteer for a community event a few weeks ago, and the facility is top notch. It looks like a hotel; up to date and clean. You get the idea in your head of a nursing home looking like drab, not this place. It was even more obvious the staff members care about their residents through the time and dedication put into the event I attended. The staff was dancing to oldies along with the residents and taking photo booth pictures. Seemed to me everyone had a great time, lots of smiles and wheelchairs spinning on the dance floor. I will be back to volunteer!

My sister was hospitalized last fall, and the hospital team's social worker offered my family the option of sending her to the Avenue of Macedonia. My sister has been at the Avenue for several months now. It is an excellent facility. The care, professionalism, and genuine concern of everyone at the facility, from the receptionists, Dawn and Errin, to the nurses led by Carol, to the administrative team, including Jessica in finance, are exceptional.

The place is very nice. The staff is very nice. However, the food is not edible and after a long day of rehab they want a descent meal! A cold hotdog with a bean soaked bun is not dinner! They need to work on the food!
