This review is different because my story with Oakland Care Center is different. To put it plainly: they saved my life. Three days after being discharged to their care, I became very sick. I refused to go to the hospital, but the head nurse at the time saw something I couldn't. She forced my hand and called paramedics. It turns out I was much sicker than I thought: I had COVID, pneumonia, sepsis, and my kidney function was failing. If that nurse hadn't recognized how sick I was and made the decision I was unwilling to make for myself, I have no doubt that I wouldn't be here to write this. After a long hospital stay that left me bedridden, I lost the ability to move my legs more than a few inches. I was again discharged to Oakland Care Center. Their physical therapy department and its unbelievable therapists are the reason I can walk today. This became a pattern. After 10 months, they got me walking. Then, I needed a total hip replacement. After the surgery, I went back to Oakland, and their PT department had me walking again in weeks. Then, in what sounds unbelievable, my new prosthetic hip dislocated—the agony was immense. After revisionary surgery, I was again discharged to Oakland Care Center. They had me walking again in three months. So let's tally that. Oakland Care Center saved my life once and got me walking again on three separate, grueling occasions. I am only 48 years old. It’s natural for your mind to get lost, to dream of a life that now feels unreachable. You can lose focus on the big picture of why you are there and forget the incredible medical care and comfort you are receiving. It is humbling to step back and take in that reality. This isn't a traditional review, but what's more important than any amenity is what the Oakland staff demonstrated every single day: heart and compassion. That goes for everyone, from the aides and nurses to the doctors and administration. Thank you, Oakland Care Center. Thank you for reading my story and how it was intertwined with yours. -Mark H-

Having worked in health care for over 30 years, I can recognize an exceptional facility when I see one. Oakland rehab is filled with a caring, competent, kind and skilled staff who work hard to meet the needs of both the patient and the family members. Their communication is timely, courteous and friendly , often a rare find in today's world. The facility is clean and rooms are spacious. A special thanks to Stephanie in admissions who arranged such a organized and expedient transfer of our family member from another facility requiring insurance and transportation details, to Zina for an informative tour for my son, to Dr.Gupta for his kind and patient evals and care, to Iris in the Social Work team to address our family member's psycho-social needs and insurance questions, to Jasmine, the front desk receptionist who shares a welcoming and friendly greeting on the phone, to Brent, Maddy and Eugene for their diligent rehab guidance for our loved ones recovery, to all the nurses who are so kind, patient and caring (some of whom we have met- Maya, Monise and Ray and others whom we have not had the privilege of meeting yet) To all the staff, thank you for creating such a positive and caring environment at Oakland, keep up the great work, it is truly appreciated!

Our mom has been a patient in Oakland Rehab for a few months. The transition was a difficult one for her. Nicole, along with her staff in the recreation department, were wonderful. They went above and beyond to welcome and encourage her to participate in the activities. They made her feel safe and part of a community.Akira, the therapy dog, is a wonderful asset to the program. She is loved by clients and staff alike. The daily activity list has something for everyone and keeps the clients actively engaged. The recreation department staff are both caring and compassionate. Mom is presently participating in activities and has made new friends, thanks to the recreation department staff.

The Korean Program at Oakland is incredible! My father has been to three other Korean Rehab facilities in NJ and they do not compare. From the start, Mr. Kim who runs the program has been empathetic, supportive, informative and caring. The staff and nurses are also very personable, caring and communicative. Everything a family member would want for their loved ones. My father is safe, comfortable and happy to be amongst other elderly Koreans. He also enjoys Korean meals daily and plenty of activities during the day. I am forever grateful to Mr. Kim and his staff at Oakland Rehab Center.

My Nana who has dementia is staying at this facility. Michael has been very kind and helpful; he goes out of his way to schedule video calls for me and my other family members to meet with my Nana. I live on the west coast, and if it weren’t for these video calls, I wouldn't be able to see her at all. Thank you to Michael and the other compassionate staff members who are taking care of my Nana. My family and I appreciate you so much!💛
