The facility is very nice but the service is very disappointing. My friend is always complaining about the food and house keeping. Having said that, it's one of the better assisted care facilities.
My mother was recently a rehab patient (12 days) at St Ann’s on Portland Ave in Irondequoit, on the 8th floor, the Browncroft wing. She was recovering from a partial hip replacement & a broken wrist in a big cast. This place is bright & very clean, a cleaning person came every other day to mop floors, garbage emptied daily. Her room was large & comfortable w/ a dresser, closet, cupboards, nightstand, phone, large TV w/ many channels, a large bathroom w/ shower, sink, toilet, commode & a sturdy shower chair. We noticed that Not all rooms are the same, though. She received both OT & PT services M-F & one on Sat. She thought the meals were delicious with a lot of variety, she got to choose her meals. The aides were loving, helpful & competent. Most of the nurses were caring & competent too. Some days they were short staffed, but over all her needs were met and she would recommend this place. We felt lucky.
My father has stayed at the skilled nursing facility 2 times. He was allowed to escape twice and security both times had to go find him. Thank God he was found safe. The St Ann's people will convince you that once you're in the St Ann's "system" your loved one will always be cared for. This is far from the truth. My family is currently looking at places outside of the so called system due to facilities being full or others just not capable of caring for my father. You would think they would be more helpful but they're not.
We hold Morning Prayer (Liturgy of the Hours) Tuesday, 9 a.m. in St. Ann's Chapel. All are welcome. Not during Covid19. Find us on Zoom.
My mother in law has been on the rehab floor while she recuperates from illness. It’s clear there is a staffing shortage there but most of the nursing staff and the aids are good and they do what they can. The facility is worn down and not clean. When my mother in law had an unfortunate bowel movement, she needed assistance to clean herself. The nurse assisting left my mother in law covered in feces and left the floor in the bathroom the same. We asked for something to clean the floor with but the housekeeping closest was locked. We had to go buy cleaning products to clean up the floor ourselves. We had alot of cleaning products on hand throughout her stay because the housekeeping services were inadequate. There were mousetraps in the room too (see photo). The food is also sub par. Nothing is freshly prepared. Eggs are like rubber, milk is served warm, sandwiches on white bread so thin you wonder if they’re rationing food. Sara Lee cake out of a box given to a diabetic. We’ve been bringing in home cooked food so Mom can eat more nutritious food more appropriate for a diabetic. The rehab floor is also full of people in various stages of dementia. They wander around, cry out all day and require a lot of care. Some have wandered into my mother in law’s room unattended. Physical therapy has been okay. If your parent is going into rehab at St. Ann’s you need to lower your expectations of the unit and you need to be prepared to watch over your loved one carefully.
