Commonwealth Memory Care at Chesapeake
Commonwealth Memory Care at Chesapeake
Commonwealth Memory Care at Chesapeake is a licensed assisted living facility located in Chesapeake, Virginia, specializing in memory care services for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. Virginia Assisted Living Facilities provide a variety of services based on licensure level. Facilities may be licensed as Residential or Assisted Living based on the intensity of care provided.
Commonwealth Memory Care at Chesapeake has a licensed capacity of 74 residents. Services typically include assistance with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring, eating), medication management, meals, housekeeping, laundry, social and recreational activities, transportation, and 24-hour staff availability. Some facilities offer specialized memory care.
Who We Serve: Assisted Living Facilities serve older adults and people with disabilities who need help with daily activities but do not require the 24-hour skilled nursing care provided in nursing homes.
Memory Care Services: This facility offers specialized memory care services, including staff trained in dementia care techniques, activity programming designed for cognitive engagement, and appropriate safety measures. When evaluating memory care options, families should consider staff training, staff-to-resident ratios, security features, and the approach to managing behavioral symptoms.
Licensing: Typically licensed by the Virginia Department of Social Services, Division of Licensing Programs.
Payment Options: In Virginia, Medicaid may help pay for assisted living through the Elderly or Disabled with Consumer Direction (EDCD) Waiver, Commonwealth Coordinated Care Plus (CCC+). Eligibility is based on both financial and functional criteria. Contact Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services or visit https://www.dmas.virginia.gov/ to learn about eligibility requirements and how to apply. Wait lists are common for waiver programs, so applying early is recommended.
Families researching assisted living options should verify the facility's current license status, review any inspection reports, and schedule a visit to assess whether the environment and services meet their loved one's needs. For more information about assisted living regulations in Virginia, visit Virginia Department of Social Services, Division of Licensing Programs.
Licensing requirements and regulations may change. We recommend verifying current requirements directly with your state's licensing agency.

My mom's friend is a resident in this community. The administration and staff has been nothing but amazing to her from the first day she arrived. I know the administration is all new but they are doing a great job! The atmosphere has changed for the positive and the residents seem much happier. Thank you for really taking care of my mom's best friend. You are appreciated and your kindness does not go unnoticed.
If you are planning on putting your loved one in Viva Memory Center you may want to know some things. Do not worry about having enough clothes for them or labeling the clothes. All the residents share clothes even if they are too small or too large. You may never find your loved one’s clothes. If your loved one is a messy eater their clothes may not be changed all day. Your loved one may never be wearing shoes because shoes are lost on a regular basis, even if they are labeled. Do not send any sentimental items with your loved one because you will likely never see them again because the residents are allowed to “shop” in each others’ rooms. Do not be surprised at some of the language the staff uses around the residents. Monitor all medications your loved one will be on because sometimes additional medications might be prescribed for behavioral issues. If your loved one is a fall risk they will be sent to Chesapeake Regional for any reason the staff finds them on the floor for a seen or unseen fall. There they will receive a CT scan for each fall. Medical Transport runs about $300 a trip. If you need to speak to administration plan on waiting for a response as they are not readily available. There is no number for the regional office if you have a concern about the facility. If you are planning for your relative to be at this facility for end of life care, they are not a “nursing facility” and cannot provide that care.
If I could give this place a zero rating, I would do thar. Right from the first there was problems. we went a couple days ahead of time and prepared his room. But when we got there to move him in the roommate had removed all of the bedding and bed spread and pillows from his bed.And it was stripped down to nothing. When we ask staff about it, they had no idea. But we finally found it in the roommates laundry basket. That was just the beginning. Because every day, his things were disappearing. He was only there six days and his hearring aids disappeared, his dentures disappeared from the container, the recliner cover with little pockets in it disappeared from the.Recliner, new towels that we had taken for him disappeared. We told staff about this numerous times and they never found any of the items. On his third day, there, his wife asked if they could give him a bath and they said they didn't have time. When he went in there, he could walk and even navigate stairs. Six days later, after being found outside by family members in eighty five degree, heat with a jacket and hat on he is unable to walk or feed himself. And is totally bedridden. This is just a little bit of what we experienced, but google won't let us post the whole review because it was so long. I would never recommend this place to anyone.
I recently had a visit with a family friend at VIva Memory Care. The facility was very kept, bright and inviting. New management seems to be making great changes.
Nanni’s room was very clean. They were very attentive to the needs of those in the west wing where I was visiting. Raven and Coco rock! Most all of them do. I’ve just forgotten their names.
