About
Aase Haugen was a young woman who immigrated from Eggedal, Norway, in 1854 at age 13. She cared for her entire family through their final days and ended up alone, with no family at age 42. She became a philanthropist with her large estate until her death in 1910 at age 69. Her last will and testament gave everything she owned to the Norwegian Lutheran Church to, “build a home for the aged in her name so that no one would ever die alone.”
The first Aase Haugen Home was completed in 1915 and has relocated and grown in response to community need ever since. We offer skilled rehabilitation care, long-term nursing care, respite care, dementia care, assisted living, and independent living options to suit most any lifestyle.
Aase Haugen is licensed as a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC). A CCRC is a complete system of coordinated services following a people through the aging process and through the various levels of care within one organization. It is more than just a collection of fragmented services but includes mechanisms for organizing resident-centered services and operating them as an integrated system.
We are also certified as a social ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) and fully licensed with the Iowa Department of Health to accept private pay and most private insurances as well as being a certified Medicaid and Medicare provider.
