I cannot say enough positive comments about each and every staff member here along with the all the patients. The staff is 100% Kind, helpful, knowledgeable, professional, and somehow remain extremely pleasant with a sense of humor which is so needed. They are caring for my father that has terminal cancer, legally blind, and mostly deaf. Dad and I have nothing but praise for Arbutus Park! Buck loves coming here and is always pleasantly welcomed.
My dad was previously in the hospital with sepsis and subsequently transferred to Arbutus Park fir physical therapy and occupational therapy. During his first day of rehabilitation, he suffered two huge blood clots in his lungs and went into cardiac arrest. Between the fast acring attending nurse and physical therapist that immediately started cpr and restored his heartbeat and breathing. After several days in ICU and an additional week at the hospital, my dad was transferred back to Arbutus for rehabilitation. The staff is outstanding as noted above, but the nursing staff spoil my dad. The room's aren't luxurious, but they are clean and have recliners in each room (which my dad loves). His room has a brand new smart TV and has hundreds of channels. My dad's room has a huge closet and of course after hospital bed. You can visit your loved one 24 hours and you may bring food and drink items that Arbutus does not have on hand. Their dietary department is also well received by my dad and he enjoys the healthy, yet comforting meals (and if course the desserts). The business office is 5 star and the main entrance is clean and inviting. Although I the dining room was not open when I visit, it is visibly clean and ready for the next service. Arbutus offers a wide variety of fun if your loved one is up for the challenge or they can simply relax and watch the ridiculous amount of channels in their recliner. Arbutus has many different options for room accommodations and has nurse's stations for each wing. The staff are helpful, educated, dedicated to service, and treat patients like family. From what I observed, the staff learn the likes and dislikes of their patients and seem to know their needs before the residents ask. I am grateful to the Arbutus staff and I can at least breath a little easier knowing my dad is receiving quality care while he gets his strength and stamina back.
At first, Amy from Admissions was throwing Arbutus at our feet to get our family to select Arbutus Manor for a short-term skilled nursing stay for my dad upon discharge from the hospital prior to going home. She said she would work on the pre-authorization in case we picked Arbutus. That was a Friday afternoon. However, after we selected Arbutus (later on Friday but she left for the day, and this is now Tuesday), she said they were denying accepting my dad because of "suicidal ideations," and "mental health concerns." Apparently, saying "I would rather die than continue being sick" in the ER is grounds for Arbutus to deem you suicidal, at which point in time they are ill equipped. So, Amy wasted days of our time because we had to wait over the weekend to hear back from her and continue the transfer. Dad has been in the hospital 5 extra days now beyond being medically able to discharge and transfer because the powers at be at Arbutus, after accepting him, denied his transfer. In the meantime, the other facilities that were available no longer have beds. But it was a blessing in disguise. Arbutus is not the type of facility I want my father to recover in if their staff is any reflection on the facility. Plenty of other rehab facilities replied today and accepted him, but it's unfortunate he had to stay in the hospital so many extra days while we got jerked around by Amy in Admissions due to Arbutus's lack of attention to detail and jumping to conclusions.
I have to say that I have known CNAs that have worked there, got close to one or two of them while my mother's day was there for a brief time till I found out if she changed her insurance! I will be sending her back in February. The staff is very helpful, and will do what you ask within limits, being a CNA and DSP I strongly recommend this home! Knowing the hours that I work and how many clients you can get case loaded with they actually made an exception on visiting hours for me. The grandchildren were welcomed❤️ and as long as their personal pet is up to date on vaccinations you are allowed to take them in the visit with your family member.
My Dad has been staying in Crossroads, and I have to say, the staff is so kind and caring. He is now in his final days and we are blessed to have them caring for him. It is wonderful to see them talk to him and give him their love. Thank you to everyone ❤️❤️
