Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Job Description
Work Environment: This job operates in a health care setting. This role requires regular walking to various locations around the facility. Rotating shifts as well as holidays and work during inclement weather will be required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and some mechanical equipment. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of patient conditions and elements. The noise level is moderate to quiet. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift or move objects and patients weighing over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Mental Demands: This position needs to be reliable and trustworthy, along with being alert and aware. It is an important part of the job to ensure the safety of all residents under the facility’s care. Equipment: This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Specialized software applications may be required to complete tasks as well as nursing equipment such as Gait Belts, Wheelchairs, Lift Measures and Oxygen Tanks. Education/Experience: High School Diploma or GED required. Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing with a valid registration as an LPN in the state of Pennsylvania. Current CPR and First Aide Healthcare Provider training required. One year related experience preferred. General Responsibilities: The licensed practice nurse (LPN) is responsible for rendering nursing care in assigned area in terms of individualized client needs, according to dependent and independent nursing functions and conformance with recognized nursing techniques, procedures, and established standards based on the scope of practical nursing, under the direction/delegation of the registered nurse. Essential Duties 1. Administers all medications to residents in assigned area according to physician orders; assists physicians and/or consultants by interpreting and implementing orders accurately; observes that medication is ingested; charts all medicine accurately. 2. Assists the Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse in implementing resident care during emergencies, when physician orders are received, on new admissions, on residents receiving restorative care, or residents experiencing a change in status. 3. Provides total patient care including a.m. care, p.m. care, tub bathing, bed making, treatments, dressings, resident unit straightening, etc.; observes all residents for comfort status and cleanliness. 4. Reports any refusal to take medications, observed untoward effects from medications, or any change in resident’s condition to the assigned supervisor. 5. Observes residents for change in status; reports any observed changes to the Nurse Manager.ent, charting, infection control, safety management, staff interaction, and staff problems/issues. 6. Ensures adherence to universal precautions, infection control, and safety precautions for staff and residents. 7. Records all medications dispensed. 8. Assists in processing new orders, admission
