First of all I want to say there are some hard-working and caring care-givers and staff here. However, make sure you do your research before sending a loved one to Haywood Lodge. Things are not always as they appear. The less-than-satisfactory care from some staffers could easily be addressed if administration would wake up and take action instead if of sweeping things under the rug.

Very mixed feelings. The staff tried very hard despite being stretched too thin. The facilities were nice. However, this was overshadowed by the conduct of the medical professional in charge. This person never spoke to me over the course of three years, except to urge me to move my mother to a more expensive facility. I asked repeatedly to meet with her on her rounds but was never given her schedule. I called once during an emergency and was told she was not working that week and no one was covering. Finally, she issued an eviction notice to my mother, who was in a Medicare bed, as soon as the facility she was in developed a waiting list with full pay customers. She issued an eviction notice to a 93 year old woman in the final stages of Alzheimer’s! The excuses given changed several times and were laughable. She never spoke to me about the eviction decision. She never called me once. It seemed very clear that her goal was profit rather than compassionate care. It was disgusting.

Just to sum it up in a nutshell, this place should be called independent living and not assisted living in any shape or form. Several day staff workers were superior and took great care of my mother despite being short staffed on a daily basis. Evening shift caregivers were below average and did minimal caregiving. Focus seemed to be gathering in front of the TV by 8pm to converse, vape, or perhaps sleep on the couch while on duty. Many evening caregivers had no training on proper technique to assist patients with ambulation, transfers from chair to bed etc. Very unsafe for residents who needed assistance with this. My mother had chipped tooth, bruise on lip, wound on hand that no one seemed to know what happened…this was two weeks prior to being told we needed to move her …no conversation of my moms change in level of care that would provoke this sudden move…interesting. As far as ADL’s go family better be aware mouth hygiene is never performed by staff. If the resident can’t do it independently it NEVER gets done. We were there on a daily basis and had to do it ourselves. Medication administration that is a paid service was hit or miss. If your family member has any memory impairment or needs any significant care this is NOT THE PLACE for them. Administration lacking in addressing and reporting issues that are unsafe for residents, ignoring issues that should be reported which by law they are required to report. Do your research before placing anyone in a facility and save your loved one from risk of less than average care and/or abuse and neglect.

We learned that the Haywood Lodge was the perfect solution to our situation with our mother. She became more healthy, more mobile, better socialized and gave us peace of mind about her care. For her time at Haywood Lodge she enjoyed each day in a worry free environment. The caregivers were kind, respectful and friendly to the residents in such a wonderful way.

Called in the middle of the night to immediately relocate my mother while living out of state. At the time I should have suspected the required haste of the relocation was a cover for other motives. I later discovered my mother's wedding and engagement rings were missing along with her Sharp Model 27C241 TV all of which were under safekeeping arrangements with this facility. The facility manager was very uncooperative and borderline rude on every one of three occasions I met with him. When I lawyered up, so did he. His quickness to seek counsel and unwillingness to attempt any resolution to this problem made me suspect he does this on a regular basis. One of the worst experiences I have ever had in the most trying of emotional circumstances. The only positive out of this experience was that the new facility I moved my mother to was completely different in every regard. It was their exacting records I confronted this facility manager with.
