The Westbury Bristal is an awesome place. There's a reason it has been a trusted staple in the Westbury community for 25 years. As a home care nurse who visits Assisted Living Facilities regularly, I can confidently say that there's something special about this location. Like many things in life, it's the people that make something what it is. Olga, Dean, Schmide and the entire team are that special element and care deeply for each resident. It's a family atmosphere from the moment you walk in the door which is precisely what makes the golden years gold.
When we realized my dad could no longer live alone and living with us was not enough for him, we turned to assisted living. After months of researching and multiple visits, we moved him into the Bristal Westbury in Jan 2025. One of the things that sold us on this facility was the staff, and after the adjustment period we knew we had made the right decision. The staff is wonderful. They are attentive, kind, and truly know their residents. They know and address everyone by name, know their needs, likes, various personalities, etc. On many occasions including the daily social hour or a special event, directors and staff from all departments can be found dancing, laughing, and engaging with the residents. From the minute you walk in the main entrance, Lamar, Cindy, & Betty greet you at the first desk with a smile and kindness and usually know exactly who you are visiting. Many times I will arrive and they will tell me, ‘Your dad is….,”. Or, ”I just saw your dad…” Rob, the Director of Dining Services can be found sitting at a table conversing and laughing with residents. I have also seen him in other parts of the facility sitting and socializing with residents and their families. Wellness - Schmide, Dir. of Wellness & Yessica, Resident Services Coordinator, along with nurses Sindy & Saskya, and many of the wellness techs who I know by face but unfortunately not all their names, are very attentive to the residents and their families. When addressing my dad’s needs, they know immediately, without having to look at their notes, who my dad is. And I see this when they address other residents as well. Activities staff, especially Dominque & Kayden are wonderful with the residents and their families. They are always upbeat, energetic, and also know all the residents and their personalities. They work very hard to keep everyone happy and engaged. I would expect that most directors of these types of facilities are hidden in back offices, dealing with paperwork, etc. However, not at the Bristal Westbury, Dean the Director of Case Management, Olga the Executive Director, and Maray the Director of Administrative Services all have their offices on the main level, and their doors are always open. My dad is constantly popping in to say hello, thank them, or tell them a story. George the Lifestyle Director is the only one with an office on a different floor, however he can also be found engaging with residents. Once again, my dad can be found poking his head into his office just to say hi. I have met a number of residents who have been living at this location for 3-6 years and that tells me a lot. Not only do you get to know staff members you also get to know other residents and their families. It’s nice when I visit my dad and I’m welcomed by other residents as well as seeing family members of other residents who have gotten to know my dad. Recently, one of the residents celebrated her 100th birthday. It was great to see not just her family but her Bristal extended family. I was happy to be there to help her celebrate! From our first meeting and tour with Laura the Regional Director of Sales and then Michele their Community Relations Coordinator we felt heard and understood regarding my dad’s needs and concerns. All-in-all, we are very happy with our decision to move our dad into the Bristal Wesbury!
Bristal Westbury was home to my aunt for about 3 years. She unfortunately had to move to a nursing home so we had to cut her stay short. This facility was extremely helpful & kind. We’ve had great communication throughout her stay & they’ve shown personal interest in my aunt’s well being even after notifying them she would be moving out on short notice. We highly recommend this facility!
The entire team at The Bristal at Westbury shares a common goal: to help new residents transition smoothly into assisted living in a compassionate and meaningful way. It all begins with Lori and Michelle from the Community Relations team, who ensure that your first impression of the property and staff is an honest reflection of what to expect—and they both deliver on that promise. From there, communication is seamless with the entire team of professionals, including Dean Kaufman, the Director of Case Management, who helps ensure that residents’ needs are met with care and respect. We are grateful for the peace of mind The Bristal has given our family, knowing our loved ones iare in a place where people genuinely care and follow through on what they promise.
My mother happily called the Bristal at Westbury home for almost a year (2022-2023). She loved the tasteful decor, and the lively, but relaxed atmosphere. The staff always treated her with respect -- the healthcare aids and receptionists were extremely patient and responsive, while management were always willing to listen to our needs and accommodate us if possible. I sent my mother to the Bristal after a bad experience at another more expensive facility. I can tell you from experience, all assisted livings are NOT alike. I highly recommend the Bristal at Westbury.
