Compassionate Respite Caregiver Needed for Child Under 10 Job Description: Respite Caregiver (Child Under 10 Years Old) Position Summary We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and patient Respite Caregiver to provide in-home support for a child under the age of 10. The caregiver will provide temporary relief to the child's primary caregiver while ensuring the child's safety, well-being, and engagement in age-appropriate activities. This position requires a caring individual who can create a positive, supportive, and nurturing environment while following the child's individualized care plan. Key Responsibilities Provide direct supervision and ensure the child's safety at all times. Assist with daily living activities based on the child's individual needs and abilities. Engage the child in age-appropriate educational, recreational, and developmental activities. Encourage social interaction, play, and skill development through positive engagement. Support the child's emotional well-being by maintaining a calm, patient, and caring demeanor. Assist with personal care tasks such as toileting, handwashing, dressing, grooming, or feeding, if required. Prepare and serve snacks or meals according to dietary guidelines provided by the family. Maintain a clean and organized environment during caregiving hours, including cleaning up toys, activity materials, and meal areas. Follow the family's established routines, behavioral strategies, and care instructions. Observe and report any changes in the child's physical, emotional, or behavioral condition to the parent or guardian. Maintain accurate documentation of services provided, if required by the agency or waiver program. Communicate professionally and respectfully with parents, guardians, supervisors, and other members of the care team. Maintain confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA and agency policies. Qualifications Previous experience working with children, preferably children with developmental, intellectual, behavioral, or physical disabilities. Ability to provide patient, compassionate, and dependable care. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in emergency situations. Reliable transportation to and from the client's residence (if applicable). Ability to pass required background checks and screenings. CPR and First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain certification). Ability to lift, transfer, or assist the child safely if required by the care plan. Preferred Skills Experience providing respite care or direct support services. Knowledge of person-centered care practices. Experience implementing positive behavior support strategies. Ability to adapt activities based on the child's developmental level and interests. Strong problem-solving and organizational skills. Working Conditions Services are provided in the child's home and/or approved community settings. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, or flexible hours based on family needs. The caregiver must maintain professionalism, reliability, and respect for the family's home and routines.
