Personal Care Attendant/Personal Care Aide I. Definition of Personal Care Aide: Services provided to assist the patient with activities of daily living, and related essential household tasks (e.g. making the beds, washing soiled linens or bedclothes that require immediate attention), and other activities that enable the enrollee to remain in the home. II. Goal of Personal Care Aide: To ensure that the patient receives appropriate, effective, and efficient services, allowing the patient to retain or achieve their optimal level of independence. III. Qualifications: A. Meets the standards of education and training required by MCO, AAAD, and approved by the Bureau of TN Care. B. Have knowledge of basic living skills. C. Have good knowledge of the English language sufficient to read and understand instructions and communicate with the patient. D. Pass the Nurse Aide Abuse Registry and Criminal Background Check. 1. Provide assistance with activities of daily living (e.g. bath, grooming, personal hygiene, toileting, feeding, dressing, ambulation) 2. Provide assistance with cleaning that is an integral part of personal care and that is essential to the health and welfare of the patient. 3. Provides assistance to maintain a safe environment. 4. Is respectful as it relates to dignity, privacy and confidentiality for individuals served. 5. Respects individual rights, strengths, values and preferences, including cultural and/or religious beliefs. 6. Provides services in a timely manner as ordered by patient care plan. 7. Attends on-going training or continuing education as scheduled. 8. Honestly and appropriately documents all services provided. 9. Maintains a professional appearance. 10. Available to work overtime as requested. 11. Monitors the physical and mental status of the patient and reports changes noted. 12. Observes universal precautions at all times.
