Caregiver Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Caregiver POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the moment-to-moment care of residents including; general caretaking, medications, social and recreational activities, cleaning, cooking, housekeeping, and other tasks as needed to facilitate the continued well-being of the tenant. REPORTS TO: Administrator REPONSIBILITIES: 1. Must be able to speak English very well. 2. Ability to convey genuine interest and concern for residents in a courteous, understanding, loving and cooperative manner. 3. Adheres to and conveys a philosophy that supports the dignity, privacy, independence, choice, and individuality of residents. 4. Must be able to clean, cook and keep house while maintaining a positive attitude. 5. Cleans resident apartments according to a regular schedule and established guidelines set forth by the House Manager which includes the following: Bathroom Cleaning: Furniture and Fixture Cleaning: Kitchenette Cleaning: Changing the Bed: Floors / Carpeted Areas: 6. Ensures all housekeeping supplies and equipment are labeled and stored appropriately. 7. Inventories housekeeping supplies on a regular basis and submits orders for needed products in a timely manner. 8. Monitors for changes in the status of residents and reports such observations to House Manager or Community Nurse. Meal Preparation: · Prepares and serves nutritious, attractive meals. Maintains cleanliness of the food production and service areas. · Prepares and serves meals as indicated on planned menus, using standardized portion sizes and approved substitutions. · Ensures that meals are served at scheduled times, planning and organizing food preparation tasks appropriately. · Prepares meals for modified or therapeutic diets, according to physician orders and modified menus. · Responsible for clean-up duties as needed after each meal service. · Follows cleaning schedules and sanitation checklists to ensure kitchen and food service areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary condition. · Ensures that resident, staff and guest meals are accounted for according to established procedures. · Assures that resident food preferences are met. · Visits with residents in the dining room to assure resident satisfaction and obtain feedback. · Washes dishes, utensils and cookware following established procedures. · Assists the cook(s) with food preparation as requested. · Assists in performing cleaning tasks as needed in the kitchen. · Assists the cook(s) in properly labeling, covering and storing unused food after each meal. · Assists the cook(s) as requested in inventorying and stocking food products and supplies. · Performs all other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Must speak and understand English very well. 2. Enjoys working with the elderly. 3. Dependable. 4. Able to learn basic tasks and follow instructions. 5. Well-groomed and willing to follow dress requirements. 6. Able to interact in a positive manner with residents. 7. Ability to instruct others in food preparation, service and sanitation tasks. 8. Ability to effectively supervise other food service staff members; good interpersonal skills. 9. Ability to organize and utilize time appropriately to accomplish assigned tasks with minimal supervision. 10. Ability to work well with others and to function effectively as part of a team. 11. Able to regularly lift up to 30 pounds, to occasionally lift more than 50 pounds, and to spend long periods of time standing. Staffing Requirements: · Free of communicable disease · Able to physically/mentally perform tasks, as verified by a health screening that includes: - TB clearance · Criminal record clearance · Current First-Aid certification · Ability to read, write and understand English · General understanding of the needs of the elderly · Willingness to learn EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must be 18 years of age or older. High school diploma or equivalent GED preferred. Prior experience working with elderly preferred.
