Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Job Description
General Duties:
Perform day-to-day nursing activities in accordance with current regulations governing an ICF/MR.
Specific Duties:
• Administer professional services and provide direct nursing care as necessary.
• Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician.
• Review medication records for completeness, accuracy and adherence. Verify resident’s identity to ensure prescribed medications are administered to the proper residents.
• Sign, date and perform all routine charting and record keeping in accordance with established policies and procedures. Complete and chart all accidents and incidents involving residents.
• Review all physician notes, orders for residents returning from physician appointments. Including Urgent Care or Emergency Department. Complete orders as received. Report to DON and Medical Coordinator.
• Direct staff in performing Level of Consciousness checks. In- service on any specific care or equipment ordred.
• Maintain confidentiality and the individuals’ privacy.
• Ensure that all medical needs of the individuals are met.
• Perform evening treatments for all residents.
• Assist with comparing and transferring Treatment Administration Record monthly.
• Calibrate and clean glucometers weekly, Check solution for expiration and maintain supplies.
• Perform skin assessments, ear checks, and diabetic nail care monthly or as indicated. Document on proper note.
• Notify physician of residents need. Obtain orders and complete as directed. Report to DON and Medical Coordinator for that resident.
• Shadow CMA’s to ensure accuracy of med pass.
• Assist CMA with monthly medications: logging, separating, and distributing to home.
• Train staff on required medical training.
• Maintain employee immunizations, resident immunizations and Depo’s.
• Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to make independent decisions and communicate effectively. Knowledge of medical practices and regulations that pertain to an ICF/MR.
Education, Training & Experience:
Valid LPN License through the State of Oklahoma. Valid Oklahoma Drivers License. Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
