Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Job Description
Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) provide a vital role assisting the licensed nurses providing direct patient care for patients in the medical center. Duties: • Performs a range of personal nursing care which includes feeding, walking, lifting, turning patients, providing related hygiene care to patients using specialized equipment receiving oxygen or suction therapy. • Performs a range of diagnostic support duties which includes taking, recording, and reporting to the nurse deviations in vital signs and change in patients’ condition such as diabetic, uremic coma, insulin shock, gastro-intestinal hemorrhage and reporting them to the nurse or doctor. Assists the doctor in a variety of diagnostic examinations such as lumbar punctures, liver biopsy, bone marrow examinations and emergency procedures. • Verbally provides information to the nurse for inclusion in the Nursing Care Plans. Documents vital signs. Enters information about the patients’ condition in the patients’ chart. Assists with completion of patients’ admission history. The minimum requirement for all certified nursing assistants assigned to the Medical Center shall include a current CNA certification from any state (United States), and a current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate accredited by the American Heart Association. Two (2) yeas minimum experience working in skill and (must have worked within the last six months in skill set). Nurse assistant assigned to Charleston VA Primary Care/Specialty Clinics unit can expect to work Full Time.
