Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Job Description
Position Summary: Provide quality nursing care to residents in an environment which promotes their rights, dignity, freedom of choice, and their individuality. Essential Responsibilities: 1. Learn and know individualized care plans for residents and provide services to resident according to care plan. 2. Provide assistance or total care for grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, toileting, transferring, ambulation, range of motion, communicating, turning, repositioning, or other needs. 3. Lift, move, and transport residents. 4. Maintain the comfort, privacy, and dignity of each resident in the delivery of services. 5. Clean and sanitize workrooms, equipment, and resident units. 6. Ensure compliance with established infection control procedures. 7. Observe, chart, and report changes in resident condition or behavior to appropriate licensed nursing personnel. 8. Answer resident’s requests for service promptly. 9. Perform various tasks including vital signs, resident’s weights, applying creams/ointments, collecting specimens, etc. 10. Float between all units depending on the need. 11. Assumes all other position related responsibilities as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 1. Communicates effectively and tactfully, while recognizing age, cultural orientation, needs, abilities and physical condition, while using appropriate interventions. 2. Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with residents, families, visitors, and employees. 3. Well organized and attentive to detail. 4. Practice the highest standards of ethics, honesty, and accuracy. 5. Ability to work independently, as an effective team member and manage time productively. 6. Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the Care Center, its residents and employ 7. Proficient interpersonal relations. 8. Reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills. 9. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Education, Training, Experience: 1. High school graduate or successful completion of GED. 2. Previous related experience or training preferred, especially caring for the elderly with memory loss. 3. Participates in learning and development opportunities. 4. Attends all required in-service training and departmental meetings. Required Licenses, Registration, and/or Certifications: 1. Successful completion of a Michigan state approved nurse assistant certification course or other education that meets state certification requirements. 2. Must hold current nurse assistant certification in Michigan. Nonessential Responsibilities: 1. Meet on-going requirements to maintain current certified nurse assistant certification. 2. Practice high standards of ethics, honesty, and accuracy. 3. Ensure resident/customer satisfaction. 4. Flexible schedule with ability to work weekends and holidays. 5. Operate equipment including mechanical lifts, shower equipment, adjustable chairs/beds, etc. 6. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, residents, resident’s families, and the public.
